What kind of Skyrim videos do you want to watch?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 10:03 pm

I'm planning on working on a lot of skyrim videos, so if you wouldn't mind this short survey..

1. In a very general sense, what kind of Skyrim video would you want to see right now (short/long, funny/tutorial, etc.)?
2. What do you hate about some of the Skyrim videos out there (funny ones and tutorials)?
3. Do you care if the game is recorded on low?

Thanks

I'd like to watch videos of crazy stuff.... like going into whiterun, transforming into werewolf, and killing everyone who isn't essential/child with the express purpose of challenging your viewers to get a higher bounty than you.

Tutorials are the most beneficial. Captions are good. Zooming in on numbers, Perks, or things you want to call out is good. Do not bother with basic tutorials. Some ideas of good videos.

-An Alchemy video showing how it works and what the max level of Potions & Poisons you can make are. If you search the web, it is almost impossible to find hard numbers. Very basic, if you take the Perks you need to take, use the best ingredients, and craft yourself some non exploited Fortify Alchemy gear, how effective will X, Y, Z potions be? The Alchemy video shows best place to farm certain herbs with pausing and calling out locations and marking on the map.

-A video showing how to make a Mage properly and showing a side-by-side comparison of the effectiveness of Magic on Adept -> Master.

-A video showing how to effectively use Blocking and create a Tank for Master level difficulty and play it ala locking down NPCs, timing dodges and how to get your Resistances to cap.

I like guides and equipment showcases sorta. I like guides for side activities, like hunting and what not. I remember a really good oblivion tutorial video for hunting. Showcases that show off all light armour or all robes are good to, even though those videos already exist.

When I usually watch Skyrim videos they are "Funny Moment" videos that usually showcase the random glitches and irony that can be found in the game.
Saying that, I find some of these videos terrible because once you've seen someone get bashed by a giant x100 times or someone shoot a guard in the knee they really aren't funny anymore, and trying to put overplayed loopy music to it doesn't help either.

*note: please don't steal my idea*

I share a channel with a guy, and I was planning on creating a race vs. race kind of thing. For example, it would be Dark Elf vs. Imperial, and I would put them through certain challenges (separately), like "How long could you survive in a room filled with bears"

The prize would be a room filled with sweet rolls

I'd say none, I've seen the videos people make but I don't go out of my way to watch it. I watch interesting videos however regardless of subject matter.

My advice I guess would be to avoid being one of those asses who just makes videos that are "LAWL LOOK AT THAT" or "I KILLED THIS" with crappy music and some stupid camera effect remixed over it. Take the time to put thought into whatever you're making, whether it's for comedic or epic purposes.

A highlight reel of your character's career condensed into about 4-5 minutes. All the best moments you capture playing from level 1 to highest level you reach (let's say at least 40+ to make it interesting).

An interactive series would be interesting as well, where you create a set of rules for building a character and challenge viewers to complete certain objectives with the fastest time. Or just see who can amass the highest bounty in 20 minutes. Or steal the most things in a day. Something like that.

Epic battles placing hostile NPCs using the console. Armies of mudcrabs vs. entire groups of bandits. Two teams of guards from different holds fighting against each other 12 vs 12 or something. Killing people with cabbages. A collection of the most embarassing deaths you've experienced.

im playing on ps3, so really all i wanna see is mod videos, so i can live vicariously through the poster. who would be preferably funny and legible.
small side note, i hate how many lets plays ive seen of modded morrowind and oblivion where they still just do the vanilla quests.. thats not the f'n point gosh darnit. ive seen that gimmie what i cant have.
also poor quality does alot to my ability to watch, however if the poster shows that he/she will be entertaining nevertheless i will gladly overlook poor production value.
honestly cant wait to see what skyrims cs does. i really hope the modding community takes it to new limits.

YouTube is full of bad, bad videos.

Please don't shoot video of you playing the game on your TV.

Please don't put loud crap rap/metal music on your video, completing obliterating the game's sounds. Usually (call me crazy) I want to not only watch a game, but I'd like to hear what it sounds like.

I like watching Skyrim videos. The best ones are:
  • Edited - take out the boring stuff, fer goodness sakes!
  • Appropriate and intelligent commentary
  • Roleplay-focused rather than just trying to "beat" the game
  • Funny does not hurt either, but not necessary

The best I've found are:

and for tutorials, http://www.youtube.com/user/GophersVids, hands down.

1. If you made more movie-like machinima's that would be great. Or funny videos.
2. Ones that are thrown together using WMM. If you're going to make multiple videos, put effort into editing each one well. It really isn't very hard.
3. Not really. Highest would be ideal, but as long as the content is entertaining I wont mind much.

WMM is free, Sony Vegas 10 is over 300 dollars and most of the people who use that crap spend more time making their stupid unnecessary intro sig than their actual videos :P

+1 to tutorials/howtos - how to pick a lock, how to be a great archer, how to time swings in combat, that sort of thing.
