Followers - any way to reset

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 12:11 am

So, I have Anekke following me. I love her but she is becoming increasingly stupid.

She will decide to stop at random, leaving me tracking back through the woods to find her chilling on a rock, admiring the views...

At one point she did this in a dungeon and refused to re-follow me. Had to FUS-DO-RAH her all the way back to the exit before she would start moving again. She also likes to kill slaughterfish then tread water continually despite the fact that there are no more enemies around and I have wondered off elsewhere. I don't want to kill her but if she stops following me again I might have to do it.

Is there any way to reset her AI to non-stupid mode?

You can level her up to your own level (allthough to some extend...I'm not sure, but I think I've read somewhere that followers levelup to 35max), if you're playing on PC:

- talk to your follower, and tell her to dismiss
- immeadiatly open console (~key), while the follower is still in front of you
- click the follower
- type "disable" and hit Enter, then type "enable" and hit Enter again (without the "-marks)
- close console
- ask follower to rejoin again

p.s. you may have to go into her inventory, to re-equip any armour etc.
Her inventory will still be there.

Nope they stay as stupid as they always are... The only thing you could do is try dismissing her and rehiring her... If that doesn't work then I guess your just out of luck, though you could try taking a different follower for a while and see if it changes after that if you rehire her...

That's just the way the AI is.

Odd, I don't remember her being this idiotic when she first started out as my follower. She would choose some odd routes but would always get back to my side in the end (sometimes after waiting a few hours). Now I can wait for days and she'll still be stuck.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try resetting her and if she still misbehaves she will be brutally slaughtered : )

The AI seems to have more problems with some terrain than others.

Also, some interior designs give them more issues than others.

They do tend to get stuck. Usually, though, they return after a transition/area load if the wait one hour trick doesn't work.

This happened to me with Erandur. Not only had he thrown away all the expensive gear I had made for him, he also wouldn't take orders anymore or share inventory. He was just wandering off in random directions. I had to let him go, and then ask him to rejoin me, which seemed to fix it. Still only has his basic gear, though =(. I spent so long picking the right gear for him, making it and enchanting it and now it's gone. I even found him a perfect bow that did 50 magicka points in dmg to take care of those pesky mages. Also gone.

This is absolutely brilliant.

I've got a similar problem with Marcurio. I had just killed a dragon near Fort Amol, just by a bridge. I then ventured to a broken hut (still near Fort Amol) where there is a tree which has been felled and crushed the hut. A Breton lies dead at the river bank. The hut is situated right next to a waterfall which then right after the hut, cascades into another waterfall. On the opposite bank is situated the instance 'Abandoned Prison'. My follower is now firmly entrenched in the hut area and I cannot get him of the rocky surrounds. I've tried coaxing him to follow me into the Abandoned Prison, also to just behind the hut where there is a smoother incline for him to walk, All to no avail.

What should I do? Fus-Ro-Dah him? I doubt that this would work in this situation as I can kind of get him out of the rocky part but he refuses to follow me a few metres to get to the main road.

Please help!

The general merc AI are not too bad. If you just keep moving they should auto-spawn to you (although it`s hidden). I just think to myself, "She`ll catch up!" and keep moving. And they always do.

Or you could tell her you don`t want her any more then when she starts walking off get her back, that could fix it.

The only really bad Follower I had was one guy who volunteered to join me in taking on a vampire in a cave. He was incredibly useless I wish i hadn`t taken him. He wouldn`t wait, you couldn`t give him a better weapon and stayed too close, bumping me when I was creeping and not trying to alert the deadly vampires. Also, unlike the Mercs, if you accidentally hit he tried to kill you which screwed up everything. And I couldn`t get rid of him.

Took ages to complete that job because of him. Dunno why bethesda made him so crap, just because he was a temporary follower don`t mean he can`t follow orders.

Ugh, that guy. I had to lol when doing the Stormcloak quest with the shipment from Markarth that I had the option to tell the other guys, "I think I'll handle this myself." Followers can get stuck in the strangest places. I've had Aela get stuck at the start of a dungeon, and I mean where you zone in. Well, she'll come when she's ready, I think. I'll head in, down, around up ramp, down stairs, right, left, up spiral stairs, across bridge of death, through a gate, left, right, right and there's a door marked "Open to Skyrim."

So I open it and who's standing there? Aela. On a ledge a hundred feet up from where we entered. And to cap it all, she has the nerve to say, "huh?"

:D

Don't know why, I should have done it before... a fast travel fixed it. Fus'ing him did nothing.
