PC map help

Is there some way to disable the cloud cover on the world map (for PC), so that it is actually useful? When I open the world map, all I see is a mass of slowly moving clouds, and I can't tell if there is a mountain between me, and my target destination, and often end up spending an hour just trying to figure out how to get around and up or past a mountain. And there are many mountains...or rather unpassable elevations. But I can't see them through all the cloud cover.

I still think a "paper" map (in game) with some kind of clear legend for unpassable elevations, and indication of roads, would be far better than the 3d map. It's cool to look at once or twice, but it's just not useful for anything other than pointing at fast travelable locations.

The game came with a large fold out map, but that's in the box. It's too large and would just get torn and stained and I don't want to have to turn around and mess with it, if I could just hit the map button.

In skyrim.ini (user folder)

[MapMenu]
sMapCloudNIF=0

There are also some tweaks to remove the blur don't know how they work though.

bWorldMapNoSkyDepthBlur=1
fWorldMapDepthBlurScale=0

In the Skyrim.ini under [MapMenu] create the line:

sMapCloudNIF=0

Btw, there's a wonderful map mod that is way better than the default:

Was going to suggest that mod Iorca posted. Enthusiastically waiting for the paper map to be finished.

AH! Thanks very much for the mod! it's sweet! That'll do fine until/if a more mundane kind of map is modded. 3D is just more than I wanted, but with this mod I can at least see through the clouds, and I like having the borders of the hold's and roads.

I don't use mods, so I framed the map with a dollar store frame, put it on the wall beside me.
