I'm not traveling with my horse anymore, fast travel here i

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 10:13 pm

So after i get my new amazing horse, i decide to travel from Markarath to Dawnstar. The problem is, the road is just to dangerous at high levels. So i was getting the road too Dawnstarl, when i spot the big lake next to Riverowood. So i decide to take the road that bypass the lake. Homever i saw something strange next to it.

I got closer too look then i saw fireballs, ice spikes and ice storms flyng everywhere. I thinked that it was the random encounter of the Fire mage and the Ice mage. Homever it was not. I should'ven ignored that sight. it was in fact a Volkihar vampire fighting 3 Vigilants of Stendar with ebony weapons as well destruction magic. Guess who wins? No you are wrong, the vampire owned them. Used their bodys agaisn't them then killed me with 3 slices.

That wasn't the first time that something like that killed me whiel i was on a horse. I was traveling around Morthal then i found a Charus reaper killing some horkers. I was stupid to watch the battle, after the Charrus finished them, he camed after me and -blam- 2 hits and killed me. I'm now oficialy using fast travel. Hang around the world at high levels it's just too dangerous.

So what about you guys? Do you love to travel on the roads or just fast travel? I'm sure that my Thief character isn't the best to run from giants and mammoths on the Tundra.

I never fast travel anymore. Horse, carriage or on foot. I love travelling long distances on foot.

I never fast travel, and I use a destruction mage. Resist poison works wonders against chaurus reapers, and resist elemental damage potions work aginst the vampires. very easy on master. or conjure two dremora lords. or use my paralysis poisons to paralyze the enemy and run away....choices choices. But fast travel ruins the game in my opinion.

I almost always walk. Sometimes I take the carriage, and my self-imposed travel rules also allows me to fast travel, but only if I'm mounted on my horse (it makes horses at least a little useful). Usually though, I'm on foot. I like the journeys, and the fact that the prospect of making them actually has an impact on my decision making.

If you are fast traveling all the time then you're missing more than half the game.

As for the "hard" part, try moving your difficulty slider down if you can't seem to get past a certain issue.

Here are some of your "problems":

"I got closer too look then i saw fireballs, ice spikes and ice storms flyng everywhere"

Lesson: If you see that, run.

"I was stupid to watch the battle, after the Charrus finished them, he camed after me and-blam- 2 hits and killed me."

You watched. You died. See the lesson above.

Turning your difficulty down will fix your problem here.

How did you get killed while on the horse? You do know you can make them run faster don't you? I've never had any issue running away from anything when I wanted to escape fighting while on my horse. That said I stopped riding mine because he wanted to fight everything which would get him killed every time. Now I just walk/run everywhere. Makes the trip way more interesting. Fast travel is boring.

At first I didn't
Then I did
Now I don't anymore.

At first I explored a lot
In my middle play I fast traveled a lot just to dump and sell treasures.
Now I don't need it any more so I walk all over.

Yeah, I had a moment where I came across an ancient vampire, and I see it's almost dead from whatever it's fighting, and I'm thinking, "cool, easy kill". Nope, it did its absorb health thing on its current target, killed it, raised it, and proceeded to lay a smackdown on me.

Well, if you are on a PC you can stop your horse from fighting by clicking on your horse and typing this into the console:

setav confidence 0

Your horse will now run to a safe distance during a fight. Of course, you'll have to find him later. Metagaming FTW ;-)

Foot, horse, or carriages - fast travel only to get the horse to my location if I lost it somewhere close.

No, you're not. This myth really needs dispelling.

Even using fast travel, there's plenty of scope for exploring because any time a quests sends you to a place you've never been before you still have to get there via conventional means, all you can do is fast travel to the nearest spot, which might not necessarily be all that close.

The only thing I would say is to make sure, from time to time, that when you come out of a place after a quest take some time to travel to nearby points of interest that are highlighted on the compass. That can be quite fun.

But generally as long as you're doing plenty of questing there's no reason that fast travel should mean you're missing out. Skyrim is huge!

Yeah, you can see many things even fast traveling. if you need to go to a certain place that you dind't discovered. You will find a bunch of random encounters. I try to not go from Markarath to Riften.

My horse died. And the stray dog. And Vigilance. So in the interests of abolishing the unnecessary death of domesticated animals, I walk everywhere.
Unless there's a carriage, haven't seen any of their horses die.

I find the Stray Dog 2 times by now. Amazing Pup. Mine dind't die, luckily. I will try to keep him alive. And yes, travel without a horse is dangerous. Some enimies can easily kill you if you try to run.

I used to hate it (in Oblivion) when my horse got killed. Now, (since I'm on PC) I use the console command "resurrect" and just pretend I have a special "spell" which brings the dead back to life. Oh well...works for me.

I didn't even have a horse for the first 300 hours of game play. Since I got my dappled grey, I've been enjoying traveling the roads, stopping at inns when it starts to get dark, and hitting different cities to sell my loot.

Fun.

I really have only just started playing Skyrim, I have one char of each race to level 10 and a horse in all, but having to dismount, all the time and not being able to collect plants or fight means that I have taken to walking/running. There have been a few very funny situations though that may or may not be repeatable. One ended up with the horse fighting it's way up a tower and across a very narrow bridge. I was amazed that this could happen, I never commanded the horse to stay like I did my dog who never listens, and I wonder if this command (stay) actually works. They were being attacked while I was up the tower.
I have been trying to play this game too fast to get to an objective too quickly as there is so much to see and do, but I was trying to keep my horse and dog alive.
