Items being thrown around in owned houses

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 4:29 am

I've done a bit of digging but haven't been able to find anything, so I am wondering if anyone knows of some sort of "fix", bandage or solution (or even a mod, though I haven't personally found anything) that fixes the following two problems in regards to owned houses:

- Placed items in houses being thrown around, moved or otherwise not left in the same place you placed it

- An easier way of placing and rotating items instead of hopelessly wrestling with an object until it's in the right position

I find it pretty frustrating when I place stuff around an owned house, and I come back and it looks like an earthquake has happened...and on top of that, the amount of time it took me to place those items well because it can be pretty difficult to move objects around. If anyone has any tips or solutions it'd be greatly appreciated!

brutal. I just read that apparently the following works (i have not tested yet but hopefully it helps):

place the item/items
save the game looking directly at the item(s)
reload the game

Apparently this sets them in place, will confirm soon.

I dunno. It seems like it's gotten harder to manipulate objects since Oblivion. I have noticed that the mannekins in my Riften home are always in a new position each time I go there though. It's really creepy, especially with their featureless faces...

I know some modders are working on the issue for PC. As far as I know, those mods aren't finished yet. From what I've read, it seems to have something to do with the respawning mechanism for objects, even though they're not supposed to respawn in your house. You might follow the threads in the Modding forums for more information.

I had this problem.

I found it gets fixed if you place the items, leave the house, come back, and then place them again.

I did that, haven't had trouble since (I'm on the 360, so no mods here)

Well, I can confirm that the saving/loading solution I posted earlier does work. I could see it being a nuisance for those on consoles and those with older processors, but it seems to do the trick for now. Is there somewhere we could post this as a bug so that it's flagged for review or something? It makes trying to have a personalized home incredibly time consuming to accomplish..

Also, for PC users you can drop an item, and use the console to modify the position. Something along the lines of setpos (x,y, or z) ###

I made a few discoveries when wanting my Gem collention to be displayable without the gems flying throughout the house after rentering or loading a save.

1. When you drop an item, it's position is set to the point where it stops moving. If you then drag it around, and place it somewhere it moves back to it;s drop location when you leave and come back.

2. Learned to drop items onto selves into display cases etect by standing back a few feet from the place, and then droping item. This takes a little practice in that you have to be far enough away from walls ets, that it doesn;t drop to the side of you (Do this in first person also). Once you get standing back at the right distance down, then aim the crosshairs somewhat above where you want to place an item then drop it there.

3. If you can't quite get things right on a shelf placement, then place the item so that it over hangs the edge of the self just a little bit, and move it around as needed to get facing direction right (in the case of statues etc.) Then Carefully, move into the item to slowly push it back onto the shelf (Use walk not run, sneak walk even better) When you bump an item, it's 'Drop' location changes then to where it stops moving after the bump.

Hope this helps.

1. Drop items
2. Leave house
3. Enter house & place items

Reload the auto save when you enter a building (or save before you enter then reload if stuff is messed up)

On the second one, no. You have to mess with it until you get it as perfect as you feel it should be. I totally hoped there would be some sort of axis rotation thing in Skyrim but w/evs.

I was trying to put a torchbug in a jar on a table and I spent at least 10 minutes trying to get it in the right position, when I got back home awhile later it was on the floor. There needs to be a way to place things on tables without trouble.

The object-manipulation system needs a big overhaul. In addition to lacking a proper manipulation system, objects tend to pass through each other with alarming frequency. The bookshelves need work too. They should use the width of the books to determine a limit rather than a set number. It's too easy to have shelves where all the books just fall over because you can't put in an adequate number.

Anyway, read the posts above yours. Barring the bug falling through the bottom of the jar, they should solve your problem.

well thanks for the tips so far all. unfortunately no "easy" solution I was crossing my fingers for, but this has reduced the amount of "earthquake" scenarios in my houses :)
