Dragons can Shout? Really?

OK, I bought this game because of dragons. Their presence and the storyline involving them is great. But after the second playthrough (and about 3/4 of the first) I can't help but thinking that no dragons besides Alduin can really Shout. They use, what? Two types of Shouts? Yol Toor Shul and Fo Krah Diin. And that's it? Where's the Whirlwind Sprint that makes a dragon zipped through like a bullet and nom you in one hit? Where's dodging with supersonic speed? (It's not really a sprint if it takes you through the air too, is it?) Where's the Elemental Fury that allows it to dual claw you or thrash you like a berserk orc? Where's the Unrelenting Force (on a dragon besides Alduin) that blast you away once you worry its face too much? (There are a few of this Shouts available from dragons, but not enough, IMHO.) Where's the Throw Voice and then later a dragon sneak up on you? Where's the Animal Allegiance roar and then a pack of angry cave bears charging you and wanting a piece of you? I mean, where are they? I'm a bit disappointed. That dragons can do like two or three things (breathe, thrash, and nom) is probably why ppl get bored with dragons real fast. Sure, they can Shout something else, but very rarely. No dragons besides Alduin do the Shouts justice, and some Draugr bosses might end up being scarier. It would've been much more interesting if a dragon had come with a random combination of Shouts it can use. We would've been dreading if a combination in one dragon could be too deadly. I wish we had that, but meh. Any modder up for this?

(OK, the 'dragon sneaking up on you' part might not work. But since we hear them way before we see them, some might take their Voices for granted. Players like me end up listening more than seeing. It would've been much more interesting if during a fight, you heard something like, 'Look behind you, fool!' then when you turn to look, something did hit you from behind.)

Dragons are too stupid to learn more than one shout.

It's not like you have to be smart to fly around and burp on things.

But weren't Shouts originate from dragons? We know the story, of course. Doesn't that imply a bit that they know more than we do, since it's intrinsic to them? Human worship them. They can grant Dragon Priests power. Heck, one of them even know how to create/open a portal to Aetherius and place a powerful guard on it. Clearly, they're that smart.

I feel like that's similar to complaining that you don't get constantly sneak attacked by bandits and whatnot. On the other hand, the dragons are a much bigger deal in this game than the average bandit.

That said, maybe it was a matter of balance (Elder Dragon Fus Ro Dah-ing you while bears are gnawing on your face FTW?). Maybe they tried it, and the AI didn't know how to execute all of the shouts properly within the context of flying. Maybe it was an animation thing. I don't really know.

Hell, when the dragons breathe fire/ice on me, I can't really recollect hearing them do the actual shouts. Then again, I'm usually too concerned because I'm on fire/being frozen. I suspect some modder somewhere will take a crack at it, and we'll find out one way or another.

Well, they Shout at you. At least, Alduin did in the prologue. Yol Toor Shul, but he did only the latter two most powerful words. And they're distinguishable as a Shout only via the magic of the subtitle. Most Shouts I heard are from Alduin, but that's all the Shouts I hear from dragons.

I see two types of Dragons. The ones like Alduin and Paarthenax (sp?) that are smart and cognizant, then the rest are just dumb minions who have just enough smarts to find prey. Perhaps the Elder Dragons should be smarter and use more shouts.

This, I agree. Some of them should've used more Shouts. At least, named dragons anyway, since they're scripted. And they're clearly quite old. Some of them are old enough to be recognized by an organization and recorded in a book.

And for the recond, it's Paarthurnax.

Maybe the dragon is anti social. Or maybe he is thinking, "Yol Toor Shul! Nuff said!"
