Deadthrall is broken

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 9:22 am

Draugr were people.

Once the brain has rotted out of the skull, there is nothing for the Thrall spell to work on. Without a mind that can function on Mana, the Mage would have to control all the muscles of the Thrall. This would be too difficult for any human mage to accomplish.

I made a thread about this and I made a valid argument and I got one response about level scaling...... it's funny cause they do this presumably, not make us OP but it makes us UP have you tried to fight 4 dragur deathlords and 8 scourges with two thralls and a follower? sure I only used conjuration but what else could I use destruction? my mass paralyze spell was useless because it paralyzed my thralls and followers and I did not have paralyze because I thought a master spell would be so much better..... and my restoration and alteration was useless the deathlords and scourges slaughtered my thralls my follower 2 storm atronachs and a dremora lord in a few seconds why? because of a system of level scaling and perks that is flawed if I had thralls which could be of worth it would be different. but seriously the MASTER spell the best of the best the last spell and it has a level cap not to mention a level cap which is many levels away from the strongest enemy and stands no match against this enemy being your only method of attack for a Mage that's useful other than illusion

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one to feel this way. And if it's a common mod on PC it should be added to the console games

not true.... you can raise some skeletons.... the ones that are not broken to pieces also draugr must have brains they talk and laugh when your fight them, also it says in a book that draugr carry very bare amounts of life regen there life when they sleep. which is probably why they breath are not like other tes zombie (i.e. missing limbs and expossed guts)

-Blood for the Blood God :chaos:

This is why I say Draugr do not have functioning minds:

"Exactly. But as I lay bleeding on that floor, I figured it out. The Draugr are relentless, but far from clever. Once I was downed, they continued shuffling about. To no aim. No direction. Bumping against one another, the walls."
"So?"
"So the symbols on the doors weren't meant to be another lock. Just a way of ensuring the person entering was actually alive and had a functioning mind."
"Then the doors..."
"Were never meant to keep people out. They were meant to keep the Draugr in."

From the book, Death of a Wanderer

hmm i'm level 55 and i used dead thrall on sild the warlock and a orc. I do agree that dead thrall would be better if we can use it on any creature that can go through doors...i want a trusted saber tooth cat to be my thrall/familiar

The thing i've noticed thats broken with dead thrall is ppl dont give passing rumors, they only comment about how dangerous the spell is

This is also a broader issue for 'multi-stream' characters, such as those who initially focus on melee combat skills, then upskill in the magic streams. You end up having spells that are useless against opponents simply because your character level sets the opposition, but your spell level is low.

I can't see anyway to fix this particular aspect, and I do agree with the OP in relation to his/her specific issue.

So here I am, level 53, and I finally have dead thrall. Yay! Except I can't hardly use it because most of what I fight is over level 40. I decided to try playing as a necromancer for awhile and I can't because the enemies I fight are, and will continue to be, immune to dead thrall by virtue of being over level 40. For such a high level spell it's odd that there is such a hard cap placed upon it. I understand if perhaps a 100 level conjuration perk is required to remove such limits, but as it stands it's a spell will quite a bit of potential that is quickly cut short.

I think a good fix would be to only allow players to resurrect enemies their level or below. Or even five levels below. Anything to remove this unfortunate wall from such an exciting spell.

And one minor complaint, I'm sad I can't use dead thrall on chaurus or other animals. I was really hoping to play as a "hunter" with my trusted animal buddy. I understand why giants and mammoths can't be dead thralled, but why not a chaurus or a bear? Anything physically smaller than a frost atronach should be dead thrall-able since it can fit through a doorway.

Anyone else feel this way? Are the PC users modding this problem away? Or am I alone with this feeling?

Not sure about the thrall thing but there are already a few pet mods on Nexus for the aspiring Hunter types. It's just some basic "equip item, pet appears, fights for you, yay" but we need the CK for more complicated stuff.
