this is going to be my 6th character (?). i'm making a mage, going for max level.
i don't plan on using any kind of weapons aside from magic, and i'm only going to use robes/clothing.

should i make a breton to cap magic resist easily or a high elf for 50 extra points into HP?
i'm making destruction and alteration free to cast, any comment?
what do you think about illusion master level spells or invisibility? also do the buffs effect atronarchs?

at level 81 i'll have 700 hp 100 fatigue and 300 magicka. this is with a breton, i feel it's the only real choice tbh.

This is just me, but I find a high elf mage in charge of the college better fitting. For some reason when I imagine a breton mage than they have a different style than what the college of winterhold offers.

Weird I know, but it caused me to make a high elf wizard and he is awesome. He is arrogant and tall but it is awesome to see him blast away the stormcloaks with ease.

I consider illusion magic to be the most unimportant for a pure mage. I think it fits better for a shadow-mage like someone who would do the dark brotherhood. You only have a limited number of perks to spend and magic skills dont really become powerful unless you complete the perk trees for it. I think perks are better spend on skills thta a pure mage needs to get around, like restoration (healing), alteration (shield, destruction (damage) and conjucation (damage, destraction to reduce chance of being hit).

yeah i kind of think illusion svcks a little bit too.. but, invisibility can't be ruled out, being able to possibly buff your atronarchs sounds great and you know.. walking into an inn and casting master level frenzy and fear on people.

that's important too.

and that's cool, high elves are pretty good for rp reasons when you're using a mage. i've always used bretons since morrowind, i even made my warriors and thieves bretons so they'd level up more.. but i'm insane like that

It is not as important as doing max damage and having enough shield and health regeneration to stay alive. Without the perks I would have said: go for it. Afterall you can just max it all out anyway, but due to the perk limited you have to pick and choose.

Also dont forget that although you can unlock a lot of perks, it gets harder and harder as you level up. So consider that most of your playthrough will be spend without the perks you imagined your build would have. If you were to spread those perks over a lot of skills than perhaps at L50 your skills will be strong, but until you get there you will be relatively weak at everything. So I think it is better to focus on must-have skills, you can always add perks to illusion after you've reached L50 and are powerful at more important things.

oh yeah i'm just going to glitch it and run around like tim the enchanter. that's usually what i do, level a build from the ground up to 40ish legitimately and take the knowledge and apply it to these cheated character builds.

i've got about 4 normal toons, a bunch of deformed looking ones that i do random stuff with and 2 cheated ones. this'll be the 3rd.
