Detailed question about smithing Dragonscale armor.

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 9:07 pm

I want to use as few points in light armor as possible... I plan on using the enchanting/alchemy loop, maxing out smithing, enchanting, and alchemy,

Now, without any perks in the Light armor tree, is it possible to get dragonscale armor up to the 567(?) armor cap? Again, using only the alchemy/enchanting loop, no skills in light armor.

If it is, sweet, that's all I need to know. (Explaining what all the variables and the equation to figure it out myself would be nice of you, but not necessary.)

If it isn't, what % bonus from the light armor tree do I need? (As there are three different perks that I could play with to get the needed %.) I'd like to get Wind Walker for the stamina regen, so would have +45% just from prereqs for that.

This build I am using a shield, but would like to know the numbers for a build with and without dragonscale shield. I have been googling this for like, 4 hours, and figured I'd break down and ask the experts.

Thanks in advance,
Jaster

This thread very thoroughly explains all the maximum armor ratings / weapon damages etc you can reach. Well worth a read if you choose to use the loop. Personally I don't enjoy being jesus' second coming on nirn so i don't bother.

Any armor can reach the cap. So, Dragon Armor comes down to Aesthetics in the long run. It is much easier to hit the cap with other materials, so you have more Perks to use in other areas.

With only the smithing skill and light armor (w/all the light armor perks), I have a displayed armor rating of 558 without a shield. (Dragonscale)
The cap is what 567?
You can either use the Lord stone OR a shield and reach the maximum damage reduction; without "optimising" with enchanting or alchemy.
Not that "optimising" is bad, but it is not necessary to achieve maximum damage reduction.
