As a magic user, bound weapons or normal weapons?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 10:48 pm

Q1)For a magic user, is bound weapon fine or should i consider regular weapons eg 1h/2h? Relating to damage

Q2)Do Bound weapons gain from normal handed weapon perks eg dmg perk?

Q3)Can bound weapons decapitate?

Q4)Can you dual wield bound weapons?

Q5)How do you play your magic char, bound or normal weapons?

Thank you

1 bound are daedric and with the added damage perk are decent in damage but pale in comparison to smithed weapons
2 i believe they do, i know 1h skill affects bound swords so i'm sure the same applies to perks
3 yes
4 yes but only swords of course
5 a mage should only use magic weapons like staffs and bound...using other weapons and armor makes you fall under the "battle mage" class

Bound weapons start out with damage around the same as Dwarven, but with the increased damage perk in Conjuration (Mystic Binding) their base damage then matches Daedric. The downside to damage is that there are no smithing upgrades that can be performed on them. Early on in the game they're quite powerful, free weapons, but a Legendary upgrade on a Daedric sword will clearly outmatch a conjured one. The tradeoff is the benefit of a free soultrap and the ability to banish enemy summons (having invested in those perks in Conjuration, that is).

Another benefit is zero weight. For a true mage this is kinda nice, since you're typically investing more in health and magicka during level gains than you are in stamina. So lugging around actual edged weapons that you're not going to sell or disenchant is kinda wasteful. Being able to conjure up a bow for pulling, or a sword for up-close encounters is nice, just as fast as drawing a weapon, and weighs nothing.

My mage uses NO weapons. No need for them as pure caster.

Smithed weapons break the game unless you play on master. Bound weapons are perfectly balanced for expert and below. Bound bow is actually the strongest, being equivalent to exquisite daedric bow with daedric arrows. Since it is weightless, it has the fastest draw time. Since bound swords are weightless, their endurance cost for power attacks is the lowest, and bound weapons cannot be disarmed.

If you want to be magical, stick to bound.

Does the added damage perk in sneak for the bow work on a bound bow. What about one-handed perks for a bound sword?

Yes perks apply to bound weapons so do apperal enchantments that fortify weapon damage. My archer assassin started using a bound bow simply because it looked cool, with the perks and items increasing bow damage I still deal tremendous damage.

All the perks work, the only thing is you can't improve them by smithing.

I would say Bound Weapons, as they weigh nothing, and can also banish Deadra, as well as summoned creatures.

be prepared for your conjuration skill to level fast early on, especially when dual wielding. Early on my conjuration skill went from 17 to 24 after just a few fights (I unsummoned/sheathed them after every fight. Basically leveled each time I summoned bound swords). It slows down a bit later, but was helpful for getting some of the perks fairly early

Using bound weapons is a great way to level conjuration while using weapons. Not powerleveling but it raises fast

No weapons. NONE. I don't carry a single weapon or even learn bound weapon spells with my mages. Weapons are for brutes, the elements are my ally, and a powerful ally they are.

I carry a single sword simply because there are times I don't want to soul trap an enemy (I hate to waste a Common soul gem on a petty enemy). Also, it's my understanding that the Armsman perks work on bound weapons, but the bladesman perks don't.

Don't worry about the soulgems. Just drop an improperly filled one then pick it back up. It will be empty. I guess dropping it shakes the soul loose.
