In Game Map on the PS3 is Useless

I think so anyway. I've seen a mod for the pc where someone changed a few settings allowing them to zoom in close to the ground and would love to see Bethesda do something similar on the PS3 via a patch. I know it won't happen though. Apart for fast travelling the map is useless as you can't see anything except icons for places you've discovered or heard of.

Everything is covered by cloud. When i first saw it i thought it looked so cool, for about 5 seconds, then i realised you could'nt zoom in. The "zoom" function on the PS3 is not my idea of what zooming in is. All it does is make it hard to click on Markarth to fast travel.

It zooms in by a tiny amount, revealing no additional detail, which is supposed to be the point.

Even if the clouds were removed it would still be useless as you can't zoom in enough to see the roads.

I hated the map in Oblivion as i found it too restrictive, as in you had no proper world view but at least you could tell where the roads were and what direction they went in.

I loved just walking along the roads in Oblivion but all i seem to do in Skyrim is try to go in a straight line towards my quest marker which inevitibly leads to an impassable mountain/cliff which i then spend 5 minutes trying to walk/glitch up, which mostly fails unless i'm on a horse which in this game have Spider-like abilities, and end up backtracking. Either that or fast travel.

Even trying to follow the road in Skyrim can be difficult as they are overgrown, or faded, a lot of the time, which would be a cool visual effect, but is made frustrating by the useless map.

I really hope they fix it. Anyone else hate the map?

Totally agree. I'm glad I was able to make roads visible on the map but that's not going to be possible on ps3 :-(

You're right about the fact that it looks cool at first sight but when you actually want to put it to use, you will fail.

According to the forums, Skyrim appears to contain a huge lot of useless stuff.

With respect to the ingame-map, I really like it... and that's on PS3.

Have you used it for more than 5 seconds? because its incredibly frustrating and horrible. You can't even call it a map, it doesn't fit the definition. It's an overhead view, mostly obscured by clouds, darkness, and confusing perspectives. A lot of stuff you encounter doesn't even show up. Other stuff you don't care about does show up, and you can't mark on it yourself (ie, treasure chest here, or silver ore here). No roads either, no compass, it's really not a map at all. I only use it to fast travel.

I wish skyrim had a proper map for consoles :(
