Positive post from a cynical &^%$#

As an avid gamer who is very critical of any game that has come out in the past 20 years, I am impressed by Skyrim. There are some issues to be sure, but compared to most other companies, Bethesda is doing an outstanding job of dealing with them. I've dealt with a few broken quests and bloated save files, but by using workarounds found here or on a few other sites, I've been able to rectify all of them, with the exception of some infrequent choppiness on the PS3. And I understand work is being done to fix this. I'm on my second playthrough, and have no problems other than the aforementioned lag, and a few quests that won't vacate the active log upon completion. I'm quite satisfied overall, and only hope that Bethesda continues to work on fixing problems and listening to the community. Good job guys.

I agree, Skyrim is a great game!

Isn't that like... pretty much all of them?

Not for an old fart like me. The Commodore 64, Apple IIe, and Atari are some systems that had games out before then which I had the pleasure of using. My first RPG was The Bard's Tale, which came out in 1985 for the Apple IIe.

Awesome. When I was a kid we had a Commodore 16. The games were on cassete tape. We used to play PacMan and it would take 20 minutes to load.

And if you are at all like me... you likely still do ~for some of them. I still have Bard's Tale 1, 2 & 3, and my SSI rpgs installed, and my Tandy 1000 Ex in working condition
(and my TRS-80 II ).

My first RPG was The Bard's Tale,
I remember hex-editing all sorts of nonsense (and give away swear words) into the Sage's dialog in Bard's Tale 2. (As a prank.)
My own first cRPG might have been http://www.zenimax.com/external.php?locale=en-us&url=http://www.figmentfly.com/raakatu/raakatu.html, if you can call it one.
I'm impressed with what I like about Skyrim ; and the scale of the TES games in general. I expect to have have a lot of fun with it; (I plan to buy it in February).

Unfortunately, my Apple has not been in working order for some years now, but I was able to obtain the MS-DOS version of the Bard's Tale series, and still do play from time to time. Haven't played any of the SSI games other than the the Buck Rogers saga in a while, but they definitely provided me with some fun times.

Same here.
Then it was Ultima, Might & Magic.
I remember mapping them all out on graph paper then comparing the results with my friends maps.

This is a good attitude. I am glad to see that not everyone is a whiny little [censored] posting about how Skyrim svcks. Seriously those get so old after awhile.

I bought Brian Fargo's Bards Tale because it included retail copies of BT 1, 2 & 3.
I knew going in that Bard's Tale by Inxile was never intended as a sequel or even a spin off.
He just had the rights to the name and made an action RPG that made light of RPG Cliché.

Buck Rogers was cool. The gameplay was all but identical to the SSI GB games, except for the Forgotten realms setting, and lack of handguns for fighters.

** You may like this a lot if you ever played Eye of the Beholder or Dungeonmaster: http://www.grimrock.net/

So agreed. I love the forums but get really tired of the negativity.
