Bored of Skyrim

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:06 pm

Hello all, I have a bit of a problem.

Sadly I have become bored and completely stumped on what to do now that I am 100+ hours into the game. When i have looked online on what could possibly help me play with the same conviction and euphoric manner that I had when I first played the game. Just to clarify, i am not bored because i didn't like it.

I have daedric weapons and armor on my lvl 46 nord dual swordsman, so this always makes me feel too powerful (even raising the difficulty didn't give me much of an incentive to play more). I always wish i had a computer that could play skyrim because of the mods- but because I have an xbox that of course wont happen.

When i try to make a new character in skyrim I always have a bit of anxiety that drives me to get off of that character and go to my main because I always feel like it would take such a long time to re gain what i had in my main in the first place.

What should I do? (Continue to try playing on a higher difficulty, buy the game guide, change races, dont play much of the main quest etc [?]) Any input would be appreciated

Start a new character and do things in a different way. Maybe change race and playstyle? 100+ means that you still got tons of stuff to do in this game :)

Start a new character. I've done it twice and both times it has refreshed the game for me. Make sure to have 2 saves of the last place your original character ends up. I don't know why it does it but it overwrites the last hard save you made.

Changing races isn't much. But changing races and playing it a different way is what will get you back into it.

For example. Let's say you were a nord. If you roll play a little bit, he is obviously going to be a warrior. Which is what you did.

Now, pick per say a dark elf and focus solely on conjuration and assassination. Join the Dark Brother hood and College of Winter hold

Or you can become a thief. Make an argonian character and join the thieves guild.

That's why never do EVERYTHING on one account. It will ruin the experience. Role Playing will always help. If your a dark elf, your not going to join the companions, your going to join the dark brotherhood most likely.

I played the hell out of skyrim. I'm not bored though, I'm just jaded. Skyrim will be here when I get bored of Neverwinter Nights again.

What should I do?
Buy a new game. Getting 100+ hours from the game is by no means a bad thing, you don't really need to get 1000+ hours. If you're tired of Skyrim, play something else.

its not that I want that much out of it. I always feel a longing for skyrim, and I know that there is more to do, but when i try to there is no avail.

More on topic- I will try going at a completely different playstyle with a race i am not so familiar with.

I've played about 200+ of Skyrim and if I get bored I start a new character. New play styles are a good thing too. Make it a goal in the game to find every place on the map in one character.

There are several factions that provide entertaining quests, and 100 hours into the game, I doubt you've played every faction yet... In order of entertainment value (imo); there's the Main Questline, the Civil War quests, there's the College of Winterhold questline, the Dark Brotherhood, the Thieves Guild, and the Companions. Of course, you can also try to acquire all 15 daedric artifacts, by completing the quests for each daedric lord, most of which are both interesting and humorous. Furthermore there's a number of misc quests just waiting for you all over Skyrim... Every character in the game has some sort of excuse for not solving his or her own problems... What ever would the people of Skyrim do, without the mighty Dragonborn to find their lost helmets?

I've played just about 300 hours now, and I just started my 5th character, which is (more or less) a dublicate of my main character.

Your only at 100 hours, there is SO MUCH more quests and side quests you can do, you just don't know it.
Explore some more, talk to the town folks, when the DLC comes out for Skyrim, there will be an additonal 50 hours probably.

Some options for you:

Start a new and different character.

Play another game for a while.

Read a long book, like the Lord of the Rings.

A little bit. I would say that Skyrim doesn't keep me glued like Oblivion and Morrowind did.

Like others have suggested start a new character. I personally like to think of a character from a sci-fi/fantasy novel and I play within the moral/ethical guidelines of that character. It really makes my game experience unique and challenging. Perhaps even pick a D&D moral alignment and stick to it: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/210/alignmentstu2.jpg/

Do what I do.

1.) Finish everything and have one 'master' save that you never overwrite.

2.) Mute the game.

3.) Turn on a favorite podcast, video blogger, or let's player.

4.) Ignore the map and compass and let your adventurism take over.

5.) Put it down when the game or your audio gets old.

At the end of my day, this is some of the best fun I can still get out of any big game I've played the hell out of.

Roleplaying, stopping at inns, not fast traveling, being imaginative (e.g. playing out conversations in your head so they make more sense/flow more naturally), etc. I know, it sounds boring. It's not, really. I was skeptical about not fast traveling, too, but you find a lot of stuff! Give it a try! Makes the game last longer, but doesn't make it any less interesting. If you've already tried playing this way and didn't like it... To each their own.

Start a new character, play a sneaky archer thief. I swear it is so much fun. And it is still challenging on higher levels.

Starting a new character would be my best advice. I was bored as well at one point. Now I have three level 40+ chars. more than 100 hours on each

Amp up the difficulty. If you're not playing on master setting..you're not that strong.
