Oh, just what happens when you make a game, things die. things you figure the general populace couldn't care about. ;p maybe it has something to do with the time this map was made (during Oblivion?) but Cyrodiil has most if not all thats labeled there. except for Mir corrup, Sutch, Tobal isle

Is this fan made? Fake? Or official?

They went to the same place Star Wound, Stonewood and The Great Scathes went when Morrowind was released. They went to Developer's Dreamsleeve. ;)

Stonewood == Balmora? (Bal = stone, mora = wood, it makes sense.)

Star Wound == Red mountain area? (makes sense lore wise)

The great Scatches, I don't know. They got eaten by the Molag Amur region.

Skyrim is not built to size. It is about 50K i believe and actual size is about the size of Washington state I heard someone say which makes practical sense. So each of the Hold cities is about 10 times bigger than what we get to see but because the engine is limited you ether make huge cities but small landscapes or have everything equal in scale.

Else wise the thieves guild wouldn't be around because honestly there is like one path to take and most ruins would be easily found. I imagine in about 10 years we'll get another Skyrim but 2 or 3 times bigger.

You can look at things in game which are supposed to be impressive like the Falkreach cemetary. That thing should cover miles but only cover a vastly smaller area. This is a town that is supposed to be built on a massive cemetary that you could accidently walk by and not even notice.

Aw man... Nostalgia... this made me cry inside a little.

Days when substance was actually valued over style.

the larger map shows sutch, Kvatch and Anvil exactly (reletively rofl) where they are in Oblivion, anything else you're seeing is in other maps among their respective provinces, that includes Riverhold, Gideon, Kragenmoor, dune, arenthia, Rihad. they aren't in Cyrodiil. this map is just lolz (and makes me cry a little lol)

Dunstad, Sungard, Snowhawk are all in the game. They are forts. Maybe some of the others are too but those are ones I recognise the names of off the top of my head.

They just saw fit to not add towns but I don't know if that map is fan made or created by Bethesda. I am pretty sure there was supposed to more towns in Skyrim than there is.

Not entirely.

There are two Ebonhearts. The one before TES3:Morrowind (like the one on that TES:Arena map) was located on the southern shore of the Inland Sea, the one after TES3:Morrowind was located on the northern shore of the Inland Sea. Reffered to (these days) as Old Ebonheart and Ebonheart respectively.

Even the map you linked to yourself shows both.

So each of the Hold cities is about 10 times bigger than what we get to see but because the engine is limited you ether make huge cities but small landscapes or have everything equal in scale.

It's not because of engine limitations. It's a design choice. A game on that scale would be a huge task, especially filling that huge world space with locations, people, life.

We all know what happened to those towns, they were affected by the Red Mountain erupting, so they fell off into the sea or some sh!t.

(Sarcasm by the way. Really hate the whole, "Oh Winterhold, non-city thing).

I was really disappointed by the sorry excuse of a city Bethesda gave us with Winterhold. All Winterhold is two houses and the College, I was really looking forward to seeing it to.

And here is the in-game map of Skyrim from TESI: Arena
http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/1538/tesiskyrimmap.jpg

I made that in Paint after copying down all the town names while playing Arena.

Fires were prevalent in times before organized fire protection, so that could certainly be a reason.
