Elder Scrolls VI: Integrate Dragon Shouts into Schools of Ma

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 5:25 pm

You most likely won't be the Dragonborn again in TES:VI, which means you probably won't have access to Dragon Shouts anymore. In my opinion, Dragonshouts are very useful and a good addition to the series, I think I'm going to miss them(atleast some of them). So, do you think it would be a good idea to integrate the Dragonshouts into Magic Schools as high-cost spells for the next Elder Scrolls? I've already thought of where some could be placed.

Fire/Frost Breath: Adept Destruction.

Storm Call: Master Destruction.

Slow Time: Master Alteration.

Marked for Death: Expert/Adept Alteration

Ice Form: Expert Destruction

Animal Alliegance: Master Illusion(permanent)

Become Ethereal: Expert Alteration

Clear Skies: Apprentice Alteration

Disintegrate(Disarm): Expert Alteration

Elemental Fury: Adept Alteration

Meteor Swarm: Master Destruction

Summon Spectral Clone: Adept Alteration

It would certainly add some new spells 0.0

I guess it would be ok if they had different names and were called spells and not shouts.

If they could make it that Dragonborn and Paarthurnax somehow made it common knowledge how to use Shouts, then sure. As long as it made sense and fitted in fine lorewise. Otherwise, fun as some of the Shouts are, I'd rather not have them and keep the lore intact.

Well it seems clear to me that some of those shouts are already possessed in the form of spells. The member of the psijic order was able to stop time for all but those he wished to not be effected by the spell. Quite a bit superior to the shout available to Dovakiin. I'm sure some mage somewhere has a super high powered telekinesis spell that is superior to Fus-Ro-Dah. Alot of the other shouts also seem like spells that are or have been in other TES games in the past, or atleast are similar to them

Talking lore wise here, of course.

A school of magic I would disagree with. Being able to learn them over time as an option would be rather useful though.

Yeah, I think the Greybeards said that anyone can learn shouts if you practice long enough. So it would be possible...I think it would be a cool idea, I mean Dragonborn and Paarthunax would teach others and maybe build a freaking school just for that. I mean they both want to make sure Alduin never returns, and if so people are ready for him.

The ability to learn shouts as a skill yes, integrate current shouts in current magic schools- no.

I don't see shouts as a benefit to the series, really. Seems too gimmicky.

I wouldn't mind if they reverted to the old formula of spells being spells.

you would have to learn them slowly and with a lot of study according to lore- not sure how that would work as a game mechanic
so no, i dont think they will make a reappearance

Depending on whether Paarthurnax is successful or not, I can see it happening. If it causes dragons as a whole to integrate into normal society, knowledge would likely get passed around, and possibly applied in unusual and creative ways.

Actually; a lot of those effects were in as magic before:

Become Etheral was an Thaumaturgy spell before the school got cut.

Disintegration of both kinds were Destruction.

Haste/Slow was a spell of Mysticism.

Command Animal/Humanoid was illusion.

Weakness was an Alteration spell.

Most of those Dragons shouts were essentially ripping off magic to make itself look good.
