Is the Creation Engine a ground up build or a hybrid?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 3:05 pm

Theres been some speculation as to the exact nature of the Creation engine, more specifically, whether its a ground up build or a hybrid or what. Would it be possible to get some kinda clarification on this please? I am sure more than a few people are interested.

Everyone please feel free to express your interest in this as I am sure many of us so inclined would like to know from all the good discussions where this had been mentioned. :)

I'm not a moderator, but it's quite well known that the Creation Engine is just a heavily modified Gamebryo.

I understood that GameBryo wasn't an engine but that it was a kind of bridge adopted by Obsidian? The Creation engine though integrates Havok and RadiantAI (which is also Bethesda's I believe). Just wondering what the Creation engine actually is because Skyrim is all done by Bethesda itself from what I have read.

Gamebryo is an engine, and Bethesda has been using it since Morrowind. It wasn't until Skyrim that they had done extensive modifications to it and renamed it.

I thought Gamebryo did all the porting too?
Was it used to port the PS3 version of Oblivion?

4J Studios ported Oblivion to PS3 and did a fine job coding it, Beth should have let them do it for Skyrim as well. As for Gamebryo, it's an engine, and Creation is a modified version of said engine.

Us forum moderators are not Bethesda employees, however, I think you mean the "devs" rather than the "mods," no?

Edited topic title and moved to general discussion.

Why is there all this talk of Obsidian????

The creation engine is a game engine and it isn't new it is just heavily modified version of the gamebryo engine but seems to have the same flaws as it's base engine. As said above 4J studios should have done the port:

Oblivion - 4J studio, works perfectly
Oblivion GOTY - Bethesda, vampire glitch and other bugs
Fallout 3 - Bethesda, absolute mess
Skyrim - Bethesda, absolute mess

This is about the PS3 version as the topic was just moved from the PS3 section*
