Role Playing while you're not playing?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 6:10 pm

In Skyrim I am Maximus Danger, a master thief with an affinity for smithing. I enjoy walking the landscape in search for random ore veins when I'm not invading the pockets and homes of city dwellers. Much of my time is devoted to organizing my ill-gotten goods, and I don't really sell much of what I steal or create in the forge. I suppose you could say that I am a klepto-hoarder.

When I am not playing Skyrim I am constantly thinking about it. The role I have filled in Skyrim has taken over my mental playground. As I pay for my mocha at the coffee stand I am thinking about what followers would look good in a suit of glass armor. When I'm waiting for traffic lights to turn green I am thinking about walking along a picturesque mountain stream in Skyrim. Throughout my workday I am mentally addressing the fact that there are many items in my Breezhome that I should allocate to a different stash spot or get rid of all together.

Has your role in Skyrim taken over?

I walk around thinking about how I'm going to add to my glorious saga.
That - and in Criminology, I'm usually writing short-stories about my characters.

So aye. Pretty consumed by Skyrim at the moment.

I do believe they manufacture medications to treat this condition. In fact, I'm going to discuss this with my doctor this very day. My wife is getting very annoyed by my dragon shouting at her.

Excedrin helps with the headaches I get from playing for too long in one sitting. And my wife's dragon shouts usually get me out of the chair too (temporarily). ;-p

Yep. Same here. It's mostly music with me. In idle moments, of which I have a lot in my job, I'm usually hearing the soundtrack in my head. But I also think about my character. I'm trying an RP heavy character (no main quest), and I think a lot about her thoughts and plans, for trying to keep in character while playing. I've sort of lost the plot since I started doing the College quests -- the main quest lines aren't so conducive to roleplaying, for me at least.

Right now it's not so much the game that's taken over my life as this forum!

When I was bored in school one day, I wrote a 2 page backstory on my character. :P

I chased the neighbors cat around with a greatsword the other day. Those khajiits are fast. Ok it was a pickaxe.

Nope, I keep gaming and reality separate, and I hope to keep it that way. My wife wouldn't be very happy if I actually used my Sword collection on people.

Heh. I have marmot and bull snake skeletons at home and in my office. (My husband has a skunk skull.)

Anyway, on topic: Lately I've been thinking about the story I want to build for a possible companion mod. But last month I was definitely spending a lot of mental time on where my characters were going next, how they were going to tackle a dungeon I knew some spoilers about, etc. I started one fanfic and haven't gotten far with it because I decided it might be more fun to do a larger one based on all my characters' experiences. Which I haven't written anything down for at all.

Apologies for the sentences in which I ended with a proposition!!
