Bow malfunction?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 4:23 am

All of a sudden 10-20% of my bow shots are missed. I have skill 78 and a lot of perks in archery. I recently changed my bow to a custom enchanted glass bow, but I hardly believe that can be the cause.
So far, ALL my bow shots were clean, the arrow had a straight trajectory from the bow to the target. All of a sudden, some of the shots don't follow through, more precisely the arrow drops dead on the ground like it hit an invisible object between me and the target. It's not human error, every time I draw the bow fully, like I always do. I don't know how to describe this better, the arrow leaves the bow normally, then it loses altitude very fast like it was too heavy to fly. Anyone experienced this?

Probably related to the beta, I had this also recently and never experienced it before.

Basically sometimes I would fire 2 dead arrows from my bow after having it fully drawn.

Does it do that when you're using the bow on a field outside? I mean, sometimes you *do* hit an "invisible object". Some of the architecture in the game has bigger and simpler collision boxes than their physical size and shape would suggest, so you tend to still hit the object when you think you're sneaking an arrow through a gap in the architecture, around a corner, or something. IOW, you might think there's a gap you can shoot through, in a statue or something, but the game thinks it's all a single solid object. Then again, if it's one in 5 shots, the above sounds pretty unlikely.
Do you have any mods installed that could affect archery?

You can still use an enchanted bow that's run out of charges. The magical effect just doesn't proc. Besides, if running out of charges could cause it, it'd be happening 100% of the time with that weapon.

Thanks for the answers, the bow is indeed enchanted with fire, and yes I do tend to use the bow near obstacles because my tactics is usually hit and run especially for giants, mammoths, trolls it could be the invisible objects like around big boulders... anyways it's weird because I always used this tactics and the dead arrows only appeared since yesterday.

no its not, i've had this before and it is not related to the Beta i have as the OP said fully drawn and had it hit the floor in front of me kind of like a belly flop its really frustraiting

again, definatly not my bows are all currently un-enchanted and it still happens, very rarely but still....

He's not talking about a collision he means you draw the bow and the arrow arches over and hits the floor directly in front of you like you havnt drawn the bow properly, I've had this happen mostly in caves but i havnt been trying to fire through any small gaps even if i had the arrow would stick out from the collision box and we would know the cause.

Anyone experienced this?

no your definatly not alone! unfortuantly i have no idea how to help the issue.

The statics(furniture, walls etc.) have materials. If it's a cave wall or something, the arrow will just bounce off. Some stuff that looks semi-solid, like vines, might still deflect arrows.
I haven't seen this issue myself in 54 levels of playing a sneaky archer. But I've seen the above happen, especially in caves. Doesn't of course mean that there isn't a bug with archery that I've just managed to miss.
