How old are the Nordic tombs?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 10:57 pm

I am asking this because I find some pretty odd things that doesn't seem to belong, ok let's ignore the fact that some chests might random gen loots.

I once found a imperial helmet on a shelf next to some embalming equipments, I also found an amulet of Talos on a draugr I killed.

I thought these tombs existed before the empire and Tiber septim, and draugrs are suppose to have been servants of dragons long ago.

They can't be that old given how well preserved the bodies are.

Exactly what GorbadPS3 said. Egyptian mummies 5000 years old can look extremely well preserved and in astounding condition given their age and the Draugr look siilar imo so they could be thousands of years old. As for actual age based upon lore I'm not sure

Sure, but that only makes sense if they were all in air-tight coffins but if you look around the tombs then you can find well preserved corpses in open areas

If you read the book 'Among the Draugrs' (rare, I think it's only in the College) you'll know that Draugrs also act as servants and housekeepers. They may have gathered stuff who doesn't belong to their era from adventurers. Though rare, some Draugrs venture also outside and who knows what kind of junk and clutter they found out in the wild?

That is a good point and one that I had already considered. I'd just assumed in my mind to rationalize it that they would have had some sort of magical enchantments placed upon them  I have nothing to base that on apart from my own imagination

Have you been into that tomb with the Redguard necromancer studing Draugrs? She writes in her memories that she's amazed by the way corpses are preserved. That's a testament to the abilities of old nord people.

The Nords helped Al'Esh. Why should there not be Imperial equipment, regardless of age? Or Elven, with all their wars throughout history. As for the state of the bodies, remember they are cursed to undeath, it's not like they chose to be walking corpses.

Yes. Although one might argue, given the Draugr's habit of getting up and killing adventurers, those items MAY have been looted BY the Draugr in question from a previous vistor who disturbed their sleep.

This, I was actually thinking of draugr then I was in the museum in Cairo watching the mummies, now add that they are magical undead and the age issue goes away.

Way stranger to find fresh food like apples. deep inside an tomb.

There is a lot of traffic through tombs where you can find fresh food. People visit, pay their respects and leave offerings to the dead. Check the Hillgrund's Tomb. Don't forget looters too.

Ysgramor existed 5000 years ago, so that old or older.
