Not sure there's a BEST route. Just find the nearest place you;'ve discovered,. fast travel there, and then go hiking...?

Jump into water-swim-repeat.

Well, Stormcloaks only need cooler armor and Uthegard as leader and we have best fighting force in Tamriel.

Yeah.

Those sabre cas can be a [censored] early on. Take a follower with you if they're giving you too much hassle. Attack from range first, and if they focus on your follower take advantage by hitting them from behind while they focus on your companion.
