Best elements of the last three TES games.

I do love some of the systems and concepts Morrowind introduced. But It's let down by the poor watch-a-lousy-animation-while-the-game-number-crunches-in-the-background combat system, poor textures and meshes, hyperlink hunting dialogue system, and the lack of a decent compass and map.

I loved Oblivion's far richer environments. And Spellcrafting. Spells in general were much better done than Morrowind and Skyrim, in my opinion. A far greater range and much stronger presentation.

Skyrim? Hard do say. Graphically it's the best TES product to date. Yes, it's simpliffied in many regards, but it actually rewards you for levelling up. I always felt that Oblivion practically punnished you for doing that, at times.

Morrowind : the sense of isolation, of not belonging, though skyrim manages that pretty well outside of the towns.

Oblivion : the faction quests. And the Shivering Isles, natch.

Skyrim : sense of danger. Again Morrowind did this too. While I love Oblivion, you would be hard pressed to ever feel scared.

What they all do is the world. Not the rp you make a difference thing, but the physical worlds. You can reach out and touch them, almost. So much better than the old glowing chests and bookcases you get in other games. You can interact with this. Yeah, whatever, short of destroying buildings, you can interact with everything in Beth games. Bent tin cans FTW. There is an Xbox magazine who used to use this benchmark for open world games : "can you put shoes on a roof?"

I've spent a lot of time considering the differences between the last three TES games. I've come to the conclusion, that the thing that made Morrowind great, was the lack of Fast Travelling; knowing that you couldn't just up and vanish any time you got lost or bored, made the game much more "serious" in a manner, because you were "earthbound", so to speak, you were a part of the world, and had to obey it's rules.

On a more tangible note, I really enjoyed how your character shielded their face during ash-storms; nice little detail. Also the wide variety of robes, skirts, shirts and shoes, really made it fun to go shopping in Morrowind.

In Oblivion I loved the realm of Oblivion, so dark and creepy... Lovely spot for a vacation, really. And the Shivering Isles, wow, talk about mind-blowing, almost felt like going home to Morrowind (noticed how the Shivering Isles wilderness bore a remarkable resemblance?)

Skyrim... Music is awesome (one or two tracks are remixes of some Morrowind music-tracks), and the weather/environment... Very Scandinavian, exactly how I pictured the Nord's homeland. Also the option to get married rocks... If only Bethesda would've elaborated the romance aspect of the game, marriage could've been fun (yeah, what a wierd concept, right?!)

Morrowind:
You could wear capes over your armor and regular clothes under your armor!
LEVITATION! OMG I miss my Amulet of Levitation!
Exotic, other-worldly landscape.
Excellent Story

Oblivion:
Night Eye spell! MIss that spell.
Spell making! What a great concept
The spells you learned could also be used to enchant equipment
Oblivion Gates! I loved to whoop Dremora butt LOL
Beautiful world
MARTIN <3
Ayleid Ruins!

Leveling in both Morrowind and Oblivion was much more intuitive. When you advanced from Apprentice to Expert, you really felt a difference. No perks needed.

Skyrim:
Great new dungeons
Blackreach!
Dragons <3
Shouts!
Companions and Marriage are nice new additions.
A few quest lines have a cool story behind it.
Some perks are nice, but not sure if they are really necessary. (Like lockpicking, you shouldn't need a perk, advancing the skill should be enough)
Beautiful graphics and world.

For me there's a certain charm to be found in Oblivion, partly sharpened by nostalgia and my fond memories of playing it. Of course many others would disagree with me.

I'm not one of them :]

Oblivion was by far my most memorable experience. The charm was definitely there. Something tells me it had a lot to do with the voice actors and the writing. The 'memes' and 'funny quotes' from Skyrim will never have the same humor they had for me in Oblivion. They were all just so funny-sounding and almost self-aware, for internet use.

As I said about athletics and acrobatics, though, I also liked being able to run and jump like a superhuman. Made me FEEL as 'super' instead of just my skill screen saying I was. Running and jumping through those green hills and meadows, pwning anything in sight. The skies in the day and night, the trees, the peaceful ambience :'3

Big, fun open worlds to explore.
Freeform gameplay.
Lots of fun racial choices for making a character.
Spellcrafting + lots of spells.
-----------
I still have 3 out of 4 of the big draws to the series. If they don't bring back spellcrafting though I don't know if I will be excited about the next game.

Haven't tried Morrowind yet so i can't say anything about it, however Oblivion's respawn system was the best. And also Wes Johnson.
