This might be the stupidest question....but oh well

I am a mage and so far I have been telling myself that I am aiming for dragon armor. Now I just remembered that there is a perk that removes heavy armor weight. I have enchanted glass armor right now and will rely on something light.

As a mage is daedric armor the best bet if I do get the "heavy armor weighs nothing perk"

Yes Daedric is the best armor and there is a perk that removes the weight, but if you want to save yourself some trouble and some precious perks, find the Steed Stone up in the back of the mountains to the NorthWest of Solitude. Not only does it remove any equipped armors weight, it also adds 100pts to your carrying capacity.

No armor is the best if you really want to be a mage.

Alteration has the "Mage Armour" perk that doubles the value of any armour spell you cast provided you aren't wearing any actual armour (so be careful with those Dragon Priest masks, they can negate the buff).

I used to have on robes but one hit from any enemy would bring me to about half life (still in the early levels) and this lead me to running for my life. I like enchanted armor.

Daedric is cool and all, but any armor can reach the cap with the right skills and perks. So, it really comes down to Aesthetics in the long run for armor choices.

I have never liked Daedric as it is so heavy, but I have not had a Perk that removes armor weight before. I never used Heavy in Oblivion, so not sure what Perks you got with that at higher levels.

My next character is either going to be a dumb tank, or a nimble thief, so I am not sure when I will try Heavy Armor in this game.
