61,000+ of the same key

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 7:59 pm

Somehow my game glitched and gave me 61,440 copies of the same key. Is there any way to fix this? Or has this happened to anyone else? I'm on PS3, that may explain it already.

I don't think it'll affect your game since keys have no weight.
That's a pretty strange glitch though.

I dont know how to fix it, but make sure you don't drop them unless you want to fry your ps3.

Hmm, well. Now you can do those "stand on mountain with 5000 cheesewheels" thing on PS3, ony with keys.
As long as the console don't explode.

Just leave all but one in an enemy corpse. Problem solved.

This will eventually make your game lag to the point of not being able to play, do this

I dont think the OP would have to wait any days because its only a large quantity of a single item stored in memory. Its like having 20000 steel arrows in your inventory in Oblivion. No lag because only 1 item is being used.

Store all but one in a random bandit corpse and it'll despawn within a couple days.

If you drop more than 5 items at once they will manifest as one single item on the ground, so it shouldn't affect his game at all. Except for the fact that he has 61,000 less keys in his inventory.

Drop them all individually in the middle of town, one at a time, and watch it rain 61k keys for a second.

His PS3 would melt and all the electricity in the surrounding kilometer would go boom.

I've seen evil things come from massive quantities of objects in people's inventories. I also support the 'put them in some creature's corpse and walk away' approach to just get rid of them before they cause problems.

If keys are drop-able (as I've seen suggested); just drop them in an unsafe container and forget about them.
(I didn't think they were drop-able though.)

I don't think you can drop keys, per se. But you CAN store them in a container, including corpses. The preferred method of using corpses is simply because they despawn the fastest, thus clearing them from the games memory/cache quicker.

Usually when this glitch happens, according to reports, increasing lag times will appear when trying to access the character's inventory, which is why you want to get them out of your inventory asap.

Well, I stored them in breezehome, now whenever I try entering my game freezes, should've stored them on a dead body...

No, it's not like that at all. There is a known bug that causes the dwemer museum and other keys to rapidly duplicate to the thousands, causing known lag and freezing issues to the point of being unplayable in the most extreme cases. Just trying to help.

Edit: Here's another instance.

ye, ive experienced this too. the dwemer museum key replicated close to 30 000 before i found out. inventory lag was at that point close to making the game unplayable.

the fix:
deleted all but the last savegame
killed a random dude, placed all 30 000 dwemer museum keys on him
waited over 30 days ingame (takes time, but worth it!)
saved over the old save

game started responding again right away

Unless place them onto a corpse. That way when the Corpse is de-spawned the phantom keys should go with it. :)
