Comparing Oblivion & Skyrim

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 6:10 pm

Skyrim is the first game i actually go to forums to actually talk about it... it is THAT AMAZING and ive played alot

Things i wish that were in Oblivion that weren't in Skyrim... Alteration spells that help you with your burden to carry things

How you could have all ur abilities mastered... like how you could run backwards faster than people running at you... or how you could zoom in with your bow

In Skyrim there is limitations... coz there is only 81 levels and like 250 skill perks? and I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME to play more than twice... (i am still on mission 2 of Oblivion after 350 hours)

I just didn't like that... you should be able to have one character and have all skills unlocked in one game

New things that are goods

Besides the obvious - shouts, better magic effects like destruction mostly, sprinting, fighting animations, giants (big monster concept)... earth shaking when they smash the ground

I like how you can go on a horse and fast travel overencumbered

I also like how they improved the Archery system and made arrows weightless that was the best feature

Two handed, the way you can combine stuff... the way flame works

Also the caves... WOW some of them i gotta say i was deeply immersed in... like almost every cave i go into looks different and is just... orgismic to look at... and how there is a short cut at the end of caves

A notable thing i found very different from playing the two games... in Oblivion I WAS TERRIFIED GOING TO CAVES... it was just really scary... coz they were dark... and i just felt very very uneasy

Now it is the opposite in Skyrim the caves are beautiful and i just love going in them... in Oblivion i liked the (sun light area) better... in Skryim I LIKE BOTH... i used to hate going into caves in Oblivion

Also the Olivion plains were very scary... it would take me 1 game week to finish a plain... Oblivion was just a way more unnerving game... it didnt make me feel relaxed

Skyrim makes me relaxed even in caves:D

Thats all i can think of right now

Oh and i love how some of the npc converstations :D... its like watching a movie... like when u first go into ulfrics throne...

But wished there were more... though it did have more than Oblivion...

Today i heard a new one from my follower i accidently attacked a furry cat person... and my follower goes like "my uncle had a cat... i killed it too" LOL XD

I agree about the caves and planes of Oblivion. I wish there was some sort of alternate plane of existence, but Skyrim is just beautiful and I wouldn't trade that beauty for and of Oblivions triumphs. Maybe just incorporate them into Skyrim.

Graphics are better in skyrim and the world looks more realistic. But Oblivion's world was more colorful and less depressed lol.

I think Skyrim is better with almost everything, except the writing (both the dialogue writing and quest writing).

Too much of the dialogue writing is simply just too mean. If you ask someone what they do, they shouldn't respond "are you stupid, can't you see I'm a blacksmith/whatever!?", lots of mean kids and so on. I mean, seriously, everyone threats the player as an idiot/slave, including main quest people after the main quest, and yet the player is the damn Dragonborn.

Some of the quests are amazing, but then there are some bad ones that really aren't, where the player isn't in control at all and have to do nasty deeds to finish the quests. And then you have a bunch of unfinished quests in the journal you will never finish and you can't remove them from there either. And then some of the faction questlines are much too short and forced as well.

When I first entered Riften and heard how bad things were in town, my first reaction was that I'm gonna do quests here and clean things up. That never happened, and after the Civil War things actually got even worse, as the most hateful NPC suddenly got in charge of the city. That annoys me a great deal. It seems like the game too often just offer two evil choices.

But the rest of the game is simply just great, the soundtrack is lightyears ahead of Morrowind and Oblivion and Jeremy Soule surprised me here, although truth to be told I never hold him in any high regard before. The combat is more fun, the sneaking been improved upon and the crafted gameworld is simply just beautiful and filled with much more "life" than the previous games with people doing stuff, kids playing on the streets and so on. Really awesome  Just a shame the writing didn't reach the same high level as the rest.

Well, the PC UI of Skyrim is pretty poor too, but so was the PC UI of Oblivion. This also annoys me a great deal as when we saw the very first screenshots from the Game Informer magazine a year ago I got worried about the UI and then it came true.
