Battle-Mage

I'm looking for some tips and tricks about being a battlemage, I'm going -

(Main-Perks) Heavy-Armor, One-handed, Destroction, Alteration and Conjeration
(Secendary-Perks) Enchanting, Speechcraft, Alcemy, Restoration and illusion

I am kinda looking for location of items that is heavy and got nice mage stats on them, and i also need to level up my Enchant fast so i need to find soul trap on a weapon and if you know any location where i can farm Soul gems / find many of them. (I Know about the Main Quest Mine cave ) Would be awesome if you could show me all the Dweller locations.

if you know any tips / Tricks leave them to

best mage stats will probably come from disenchanting mage gear, and putting it on heavy pieces.

i can't say whether it's the way to go or not though. i don't have a battlemage (more like sword and resto/alteration heavy, rather than destruction).

I recently made a battlemage Altmer. His skills focused on Destruction, conjuration, 2h, heavy armor, smithing and enchanting. I found that once I got good mage gear from the college quests and was able to enchant my armor heavily I was very powerful. I cant destroy most enemies with my 2h and if I cant I can firebolt stunlock spam them to death.

I am currently level 33 wearing legendary daedric and crafting a alternate set of dragonbone armor. I switch to mage gear when I focus on spells.

I think being a battlemage is very fun, refreshing(for me) and it gives a feeling of power.

If you want soul gems I strongly reccomend you do the Azura daedric quest and get the black star. Its a grand soul gem that never breaks and it totally reusable. I use it for all of my enchanting.

Resto / alteration is Paralyse + armor + heal + Ward then all dmg comes out of the one-handed i want to use Alteration for paralyse / armor then use fire spells with a fire summon companion then use my One-handed to soul trap / do some damage to keep them from not coming near me.

If you're going to make a BattleMage, use Light/Heavy Armor, Destruction, One-Handed and Alteration. You can use Conjuration, but how much you invest into is up to you. It's better to invest more when you're +40. Your secondary skills should be Smithing, Enchanting, and either Restoration or Alchemy. I recommend going Sword or Mace, but as a Battlemage, you're kind of a jack-of-all trades but a master of none, so you have to invest you're perks wisely. I would also only master one element of Destruction, I personally like to go Lightning. Despite its slightly higher Magicka Cost it is the fastest and coolest looking, plus, nothing is resistant to Lightning besides Atronachs. First 20 levels will be hell(depending on what difficulty you play on) but Battlemages become one of the strongest characters in the game.

What I recommend using:
Chain Lightning, Thunderbolt when you're good enough.
Sword/Mace of your choice.
Lightning Cloak
A defensive 'flesh spell'
Enchant you're gear to fortify reduce destruction and eventually Alteration. Although you don't and shouldn't need to go for 100% reduced cost as a Mage would. 60-75% will do. Also, Enchant you're boots for Stamina or get the Ring of Namira early on so that you can focus more on Magicka and Health.

The better mage items will be made through enchanting. Just find items as you go while playing the game. If you need to, soul gems can be purchased by merchants, like Ferengar Secret-Fire in Whiterun.

Is this your first character? If so, just go with something, save often (multiple files), and just play the game, rather than map everything out. It's easier to make specific types of builds after you've gotten your feet wet and have gotten comfortable with the game first.

Here's some useful links for item locations and etc.:
http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_Wiki
http://www.uesp.net/
..just use the search function if looking for something specific.

Thought about going Battle Mage, but then decided not to as I already have another character that is a Thief/Assassin that crosses into the Mage sphere like a Witchhunter (from a previous class description in the pre Skyrim games). Know it's not the same thing as Battle Mage... but is more combat with some spells focused and didn't want to go that route for now.

Going with a strict Mage character. Robes, Destruction, Conjuration, Illusion, Alteration, and Restoration. Been having a blast (no pun) so far. Have to be a bit more tactful at times, but is nice to use the full range of all the spells. Do some light Enchanting and other things like Archery, One Handed and Lockpicking... but not investing skill points in them on the Celestial charts... just by doing things in the World. Use Archery for initial range attacks to use poisons with, then switch to using spells. But don't want to really invest into Enchant, Smithing and others as they are known to make your character God-like... too powerful which many might like, but many also report it significantly makes any challenge of the game null and void.

I always get the black star because it is better. The companion is easily replaced.
