Character Shadow

Hey guys,

I noticed, that your own shadow is only visible, when you're in 3rd person view. Why is that? I'd like to see my own shadow, when I am in 1st person view.

Was that made on purpose, or just missed out by Bethesda?

Purpose. When in 1st person, no model of your character actually exists in the game, so there is nothing to cast a shadow from the light sources. Your arm models that you see in 1st person are purposely set to not cast shadows otherwise it would look a bit odd to see the shadows of arms with no body attached.

It's how First person view was designed. All you are is a camera with arms and don't have an actual body to cast a shadow in first person.

If you take L4D as an example, you're actually a body in 1st person. You can see your own legs and you throw a shadow of yourself. I'd like to see that in all games, or at least in Skyrim too. :)

This is very interesting to know. :)
