Help a new player with enchant advice and knowledge please.

I've just made my armor set and I'm looking for help with the enchantments. I'm Playing a warrior wielding a 1H axe and a shield.

I have found there are 2 magic resists enchants. One from a random item and another that you get on a shield from a quest. The game treats these as 2 separate enchants. Does anyone know if you can put both of these resist magic enchants on the same shield?

So, I'm thinking something like this,

Helm = Archery/Waterbreathing
Armor = Health/Regen Health
Gloves = One Hand/Block
Boots = One Hand/Sneak
Ring = One Hand/Block
Neck = One Hand/Stam Regen

Axe = Absorb Health/Paralyze
Shield = Resist Magic/Resist Magic **
Bow = Fiery Soul Trap/Fire **

** Not sure if these 2 are doable yet, from what I have read they should but I will have to try.

I have a few queries on this setup though. I'm new to the game, so I may be unable to do some of the combinations? I did try to read as much as I could.

Are the 4 one hand enchants over the top? That will be +188% to dmg?

If I already have a max armor rating, well it's close. Will Block actually do anything to help or is it just wasting enchant slots?

Thanks for any help. I'm holding off doing any enchants until I'm totally happy with it.

Seems ok. You should drink some enchanters philters or level up your enchanting to ensure the best possible solution.

it all depends on what you want. we can't tell you how to play the game

but you're gonna need a lot of soul gems to get enchanting that high

I can't really comment on what enchantments you use, because I'm biased for a mage (light armor with nearly free destruction spells, +200% mana regen, and 750 mana)

and no, you can't double stack a enchantment on itself. may I recommend spellbreaker, though (it's a shield)

Thanks for the reply :) I already have my enchanting at 100. And a stock to plus 32 enchant potions as well as a enchanting set of armor with 5 items at +29 enchanting.

From what I was reading on the UESP There are 2 magic resist enchants that the games treats as 2 separate enchants. The standard resist magic one, and another on a shield you get from a quest, The Wolf Queen Awakened. So it's not really double stacking a enchant. I'll give it a try when I get the shield.

Sorry, I was trying to link to the page on UESP, but it seems I can't post links yet.

I wouldn't rely on magic resistance being on your shield as then it'll be completely useless if you're using your bow. I'd put Block and Fortify Health on your shield and shuffle some of the other stuff around.

I was thinking the same thing as well. I can swap the magic resist enchants out with others on other items.

Just need some clarification as to whether or not block makes any difference if you have a max armor rating. I think the max is 567, something like that. I have 555 at the moment.

Depending on the strength of your enchantments, you could make your character overly strong....which is fine if you want to wade over your enemies, but will remove a lot of your challenge.

In all fairness, for a sword/axe and shield player, the available perks in those skills provide pretty much everything you need combat wise, and there's some you won't need to take depending on your chosen weapon and fighting style. For example, if you use shield or block bashing a lot, you may not need an enchantment which decreases damage you take while blocking, because you will be using your shield offensively to stun or stagger the opponent...similarly, with a high skill level, the decapitation perk and the increases to critical hit damage you may find that you are getting rapid kills on enemies without the need for increased enchantments on one-handed skill.

I would consider health and stamina regen on your body armour; Sneak or muffle and increased carrying capacity on your boots; And keep the ring and necklace slots open for anything else you might want to tack on...personally, I use the Talos necklace because I use Shouts a lot, and I'm carrying a number of rings which I swap and change depending on situation. If I use the axe/sword and shield combo, then I can choose either one-handed/block boost, or one-handed/stamina boost, etc. If I go for axe/sword and magic, then I can go for one-handed/magicka regen or magicka regen/stamina regen.

With the paralyse on the axe, you will probably only need a 2 or 3 second paralyse...just enough to knock them down so you can get a couple of kill strikes in. Be aware that it is probably the most overpowering enchant you can put on a weapon, though. For the magic resist, it think it maxes out at around 80%, and there is a shield perk that provides 50% resistance to fire, cold and shock, plus you can get the 'agent of mara' perk which gives another 15%, plus you can get various bits and pieces that also provide significant bonuses....perhaps the best shield in the game, 'Ysgrammar's Shield', provides 20% magic resist and 20 extra health as well, if and when you eventually get it.

Ultimately, it's your choice, but it's worthwhile to experiment around...the one thing that is never lacking in this game is spare weapons and armour lying around, and eventually money is no problem, which means that potions and soul gems are always available.

If you are new to the game, the best suggestion anyone can give you is to get out there and play, and then think about your enchants and smithing. More than a few players have started the game, power-levelled their smithing and enchanting, created low level characters who are master smiths and enchanters with high level armour and weapons, and then found no challenge to the game. This game is about exploring, and eventually becoming a legendary hero...there's not much point at starting out as one.
