Any Artists Here? (Planning Skyrim-based Webcomic)

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 1:09 pm

I figured I might as well ask.

I'm a big reader of webcomics, and I've even tried my hands at making one before... but it fell down primarily because I just don't have the artistic skill for the job (and unfortunately, when exposed to my own shortcomings, I tend to become very disheartened)...

Anyhow... for the past few weeks I've been gathering all sorts of ideas for a Skyrim-based fan-webcomic... which I figure would be easier than a totally original creation for a few reasons:
#1. The setting is already there, complete with rich history and culture.
#2. The basic plot is already there. I emphasise "basic" here, as the idea I had in mind WOULD follow at least one potential iteration of Dovahkiin... in a manner of speaking. A lot of stuff deviating quite wildly from the plot of the game would be involved too though.
#3. The appearance of characters wouldn't deviate too much from the way characters can look in the game... so no wildly misinterpreted ideas.

So what it all comes down to now is whether or not I can get some help with the artistic side of things... OR whether I have to try and run it as a solo job (which I'd probably lose heart with and end up quitting after a short attempt). I do have ideas regarding how I could handle it all if I have to... but it wouldn't look as good as if I could get a bit of help with the art.

((And yes, in case I didn't clarify... I have various plot-elements mapped out in my mind, character designs conjured up, and even a name of sorts... once I can figure out the translation.))

I also accept mockery, derision and dismissal... because I'm quite used to the Internet by now.

For webcomics, in my experience it doesn't matter too much if you svck at drawing. But anyway it is always possible to get better.

This^^

There are wildly popular webcomics out there that are nothing better than stick figures. And you will improve with practice.

I'll remember that for next time.

I am actually interested. I don`t normally, but since I`m kinda free I`d be interested to have a look at doing something like this.

I'm vaguely aware of that... but that isn't really the issue. I mean I have churned out really terrible pieces of art before and submitted them online (at which point various people point out all the things I got wrong)... but that isn't the issue. It is continuation.
When I try to solo things like that... I run out of momentum kinda quickly and can't find the incentive to continue. On the other hand, the one time I managed to get a large-scale forum RPG running AND I got another person helping me run it... it went on for about 2 years (and also resulted in two couples getting married because they met there).

Good to know.

I suppose if it is any incentive... the character ideas I'd had in mind were essentially a trio of characters separately operating (without directly breaking the 4th wall) on the respective game mechanics of Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind. Heck, just going through the Skyrim story with a group of adventurers rather than a solo hero (and hireling) would make for a rather different dynamic.

Hey, man, I`m just the artist, just making the fantasy is enough incentive right now. I`m happy to visually represent the story if you give me the details! It might be better to take this to PMs where I can sort out details and maybe exchange ideas about how we go about this.

Seems fair. Don't want to give my game away to everyone else at this stage...
