Suggestion: New game +, importing levels

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 7:26 am

Ok, since we all have experienced game breaking glitches, bugged quests, lag that increases with file size, and we've been forced to start over before, wouldn't it be nice if we had the option to import the level and skills, and maybe items and start a new game with them? Many games have new game +, it's nothing new, and with all the problems we have it would be very welcome to start over, with the quests reset but without the need to start grinding everything from scratch, and it's not like cheating.
Opinions?

That hasn't happened to everyone.

Also, can't you just avoid the corrupted saves by creating a new file every once in a while and deleting the old one?

First of, most people haven't experienced game-breaking bugs.

Aside from the bug and glitch part, I don't think importing levels is a good idea. Since you're starting a new game anyway and are going to do all the quests again, I believe it's better if you just create a new character. If you don't, you will soon max out your levels and lose the sense of progress and achievement. Leveling up and becoming more powerful is a very important part of the game and while not everyone might agree with me here, I think most people would think it's boring to go through the same content again and not even be able to advance your character.

So no, I understand why you'd want this, but I don't think what you're suggesting is going to solve the problem.

About 70 hours played total, 50 on one character, 20 on the other, never had a gamebreaking bug.

New game+ just doesn't fit the open style of a TES game.

Never had a problem like you assert is a commonality. Sorry to bust your bubble. I'd bet it's a minority actually. Games just don't sell like this one did if everyone had game stopping bugs.

Well, you could probably simulate this with some console commands to set your character level, give yourself skill levels, and perks. You wouldn't have gear, but it sounds like you just want the levels, after all, you'd get more gear as you play, anyhow?

Edit: Just had a thought - this might be really challenging. I'm not sure if the enemies in Helgen will scale with you like most do, but if they did, and you had no gear, even though you had high skill, you might find you can't get past the first room in the keep where the Imperial/Stormcloak attacks you - if They're level 40 or 50 with good equipment and maybe spells, etc.

If that's the case, then you'd probably want to wait till you get to Riverwood before using the Console to boost yourself, then you can immediately smith yourself some decent gear, maybe craft some good potions, etc.

Nope. Gamebreaking bugs are not common, it is just that people who get them are incredibly loud.
Being a PC player, I'd rather use Console Commands to fix what is broken. Much more simple and quick.

I would prefer to start with a fresh character and not become a God upon entering the tutorial!
Sure there are some quest bugs and etc... but why would you ruin your game experience starting with an already max out character and rampaging through everything?
Well it is fun to to so sometimes but all the time? Really? Really!?

I for myself prefer the level from 1-15 where you are not a godlike character and have restarted with several characters after they reached a point of becoming to overpowered.

just my 2 cents

If you load an Autosave, or other one, that is getting corrupted or already has been corrupted, creating a new save slot will not fix the corruption.

What is this aversion to starting over? The game is designed for multiple play throughs with different characters. It's not like you said "Until death do us part" to your character. The game scales to you in most areas, so if your low level, you get low level enemies.

I've played for jeez... 300+hrs?
Not one single game breaking bug.

That said, I wouldn't say no to a restart feature like Mass Effect has. I like to take one character and start from the very beginning with all my strength. Kinda makes more sense then being weak as a baby in some aspects.

Ah, yes I meant that you can avoid getting a corrupted file by creating new files frequently. Saves from the previous games tend to get corrupted if you keep on saving over the same file over and over.

How many of you play on ps3? I don't have console commands, and the responses here are quite different from what I read in the software issues/ps3 section of the boards. I have two saves, around 90 hours both, I've enjoyed every minute of them, including training their skills, until they have started slowing down, gliching a bunch of quests (which are still not main quests and I don't even consider them too important) and the shield charge skill stopped working for my physical character, which I consider gamebreaking.

I don't uderstand this attitude, it's not like I'm asking for something to be forced upon everyone, or I'm even bashing the game (which has given me lots of problems, even if I've managed to avoid most by having multiple saves and being cautious)
I'm only trying to have more options to avoid problems, not to turn the game into something different.

Multiple Louis Letrushes, flying mammoths, disappearing companion, housecarl suddenly turning into a homicidal maniac, one broken Daedric quest fixed by loading an earlier save. Nothing game-breaking.

Although I admit PS3 might have it worse than PC due to the save file size problem.
