Seeing Morrowind again in Skyrim

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 12:18 pm

I'm posting this here because I couldn't limit it with just mods, or just DLC.

I've seen mods that have re-created the cities and people of Morrowind as a mod for Oblivion. IMO it looked perfect, just except maybe the fact that there was no voice acting. I was thinking how good it could be if Morrowind was re-created in Skyrim, thinking the improvements made about the character models and environments.

Then, another thought came to my mind. What if as part of a DLC, we could see a part of Morrowind again? If the DLCs are as big as Shivering Isles was, I don't see why it couldn't be possible. I know that Red Mountain erupted and most of the lands were destroyed but not all, as far as I know. Some Dunmer NPC in Skyrim said some of her people returned to her homelands after the eruption. And since the event took place 200 years ago, couldn't the Dunmer have rebuilt settlements and some kind of civilization in their homeland? The idea of Morrowind struggling to be rebuilt may be dark (especially after the lively Oblivion DLC Shivering Isles), but I think it suits the gritty atmosphere of Skyrim.

What do you think?

It'd be awesome to return to Morrowind, but I doubt it'd happen.

I could see Solstheim popping up as a DLC but that's about it.

I doubt they are going to rebuild an entire province for one DLC, especially one that has been done before. More than likely they will give us entirely new areas or huge quests and more content in Skyrim itself.

But there are already people making mod teams to do this.

They might do a Morrowind type of expansion like they did for Oblivion. Shivering isles had a very Morrowind feel to it at least with the environment (Giant mushrooms, etc).

This is why I suspect (and hope) they do Solstheim - it would be a good nod to those of us who loved MW, as SI was, and it's very fitting in terms of geography and history/lore. They could do something much closer to what they did with SI but that could potentially come across as retreading old ground.

Vvardenfell, the island that the majority of Morrowind took place on (the expansions brought you elsewhere) was destroyed by the eruption, and is supposedly still searing and scorched all around. The mainland has been completely invaded and destroyed by Argonians. Mournhold is a mess. I doubt you'd like Morrowind in the times of Skyrim.

Maybe re-using it would give a Fallout-ish feel to it?

I would rather the DLC take us to new places although to see what Morrowind looks like after all that happened would be interesting.

The only way I am buying another TES game from this point on. Is if they do remake Morrowind as it was with new graphics and combat. I was not a big fan of Oblivion. However it took me over a year to get bored of that game as opposed to Skyrim. Which I am already bored of even after trying to change playstyle with a new character.
