Oh... the love... sweet love!

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 6:59 am

OK... my character feels lonely and is planing on taking a wife... but, you know... he's kinda shy and don't know how to do it and he's a little embarrased about his bad eye (he got attacked by a cave bear when he was just a young boy). In IRL I have both popped the question and got a divorce. I just hope that Heliakon (my character) will do better

I have found out that you need an Amulet of Mara and I got one. But what do you need to do exactly? And can you marry anyone or just some special NPCs?

You need one to open the marriage dialogue option, you can only marry (one of the few) NPC's that start talking about marriage to you. Your char will definitely do better cause you can't get a divorce in this game.

The answers to your questions lie within the temple of Mara in Riften.

However, not all you seek might wish to marry. Only a select few with a high disposition towards you may show interest.

You can get more marraige candidates when you complete tasks for them etc, so you may be able to marry someone you couldn't at a later date.
Divorce is far more painless in the game though, just chuck them off a cliff and get the inheritance money.

You need to do a quest for the person before they'll like you enough (no persuasion minigame or speech check, so this is how you get that invisible disposition meter to move).

As for who is available:

There's also console commands that will let you marry most of the characters in the game.

With great difficulty if you are on a console, ironically.

Otherwise just press the "tilde" key, i.e. `

No. Once you're hitched, you're in it for life - even if your spouse dies in an "accident."

If your spouse dies from an accident the accident was likely her talking to much, asking you to do things you didn't want to, talking to younger men.... and the solution to the 'accident' is the dead thrall spell. Now you have the perfect wife, she does not talk to much, she does not ask you to do things, and she kills younger men instead of talking to them. Only downside is wiping the 'brains' of the younger men off her lips before you kiss them.

We need a DLC that has more would-be spouses avaliable in the world.

We also need Wood-elves and Khajiit (heheh, no "furry" jokes, please ) partners too, as they seem to be the only 2 races that can't be wed.

Maybe also allow the thieves guild members allow marrying after the gulld quest is over.

Agreed, more Argonian spouses would be nice as well, only having three options in the world for my Argonian character and even then only one that will actually follow me on adventures is really irritating.

More spouses for all races is something we could do with to be honest, pickings may not be sparse but they're hardly interesting.

Would be nice to be able to get remarried as well, Ancient Dragons don't seem like big fans of matrimony from what I've heard. One of the reasons none of my character have become married is because you can't remarry after the death of your spouse. Plus if they do add new options via an expansion or DLC in future, I'd rather not have my level 81 character stuck with whatever option I chose in the original game if a better option presents itself in the expansions.
