Few questions about my stash and shops in Windhelm

Hi

So the patch is here, and I am playing Skyrim again. I have a few questions though about my personal chest in my home and about shops around Windhelm. My character is level 24, I have around 18.000 honestly earned gold and a chest full of random items. First of all:

1). Is there a way to get categories in my chest? 1000 items in alphabetical order on one list seems overkill.

2). I am looking for different shops within Windhelm, that sell potions, and other useful consumables. Which shop sells that?

3). I have lots of magical items that I have decided to keep, but I can't decide whether I should sell them or "disenchant" them. Any ideas, what give me most profit?

Thanks in advance.

The White Phial sells potions and its in the same area as the blacksmith and market (I missed it my first time round too). And aside from mods I don't believe there's any decent way to sort a chest into sub-categories so you're just better off putting other items in other containers (wardrobe, cupboard etc).

Thanks, I will try that shop.
Regarding the mod - I will keep searching :)

I'm not sure if this would work since I haven't tried it, but this is something you could look into:

Doesn't work on the chests, unfortunately.

When it comes to categorizing your items it can take some doing. I spend quite awhile just simply organizing all my stuff. But then again, I have a LOT of stolen items. Anyways, It's best to use different barrels, chest, drawers, cupboards, etc to use for organizing your items. For example, I keep health potions in one barrel, stamina potions in another and magick potions in a drawer. basically all other potions are kept together in yet another barrel. I do all my smithing in Whiterun (so far) and so I keep my smithing materials in the barrels between my Breezehome and Warmaiden's. I've never lost any items from the barrel so I think it's relatively safe. Use different containers to keep your stuff in. That way when it comes time to take all your jewelery (as an example) to the merchants you can just walk up to your jewelery barrel and "take all" and then head off to sell your goods. But, it's worthwhile doing some of the Thieves Guild quest to get your fences to a point where they have more gold. It's really tedious making gold if all you do is sell, sell, sell. One tactic for this is to buy up the useful goods a merchant has, which increases their gold quite a bit, then sell all of the stuff you don't want. I probably had around 200 silver ring worth 60 a piece, and so selling is much easier when your merchants and fences have more money to buy with. Level up some speech perks, and do some thieves guild quests, and always remember to put on the thieves guild hood or other items that increase the bartering prices.

I'm pretty sure skyUI works on chests. Even if it doesn't categorize the items, the extra sorting and filtering scripts would make finding things in the chest much easier.

I generally expect that if I dump something in a chest at home, I'm throwing it away. Chances are I'll find another before I rummage that one up again. The exception is alchemy ingredients, which all go in one container near the lab.

SkyUI definitely. Best user interface mod ever.

You can buy potions from alchemy shops and general merchants. As noted, the White Phial is in the marketplace where the forge is. There is a general merchant right outside his door, and another in the grey quarter. That one even mentions it in his dialog. There might be another in the marketplace as well- the one that later becomes a fence, but I'm not sure. If you've gotten that far in the TG questline, then she definitely is a general merchant, as all fences are.
