Why is it stolen?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 11:08 pm

Been having a problem with some of my items becoming stolen while sitting in my bakpak. Ive only stolen 1 or 2 things. But everytime i go to sell stuff some items becom stolen.

I do have a couple ideas but not sure. But IMO its either... Dropping stuff and picking it bak up or trading stuff with my follower or dropping it for my follower or letting it sit to long on my follower.

But any ideas guys?

Um.... I am positive nobody in the game (NPC's) steal items from you...

According to UESP (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Followers)

Often when you get back the items picked up by your follower through the inventory exchange dialogue, those items will be marked with a "stolen" tag, even when they are not stolen. The current workaround is to make sure you first pick up all items yourself from the place you found them. Then drop them on the ground one by one and ask your follower to pick them up. Finally, when you get the items back again, drop them on the ground and pick them up yourself one last time. (The first step is very important, as the "stolen" tag does not seem to be removed unless you had first picked up the items yourself in the very beginning.)

Odd...

Being in law enforcement, I have to say that this seems very realistic...once you know someone is a thief, you automatically question whether anything that they possess was obtained by honest means. Once a thief, always a thief...good to see Beth got this right.

Did you read my previous post, or am I totally misunderstanding this?

According to UESP (see the link I posted previously), there's a bug where sometimes items that you get legitimately (not stolen), such as from a chest, and give to your follower or your follower picks up end up getting flagged as 'stolen' even though they weren't stolen. Is this what you're saying? If so, the instructions I copied & pasted in my previous post should work.

Be careful about dropping thing the second time, I dropped a stolen shield in front the blacksmith he would report me for steeling if I picked it up again :(
Later some other thief had taken it,

Think putting items in chests and ask follower to take all look like more likely to get the tag, however this is most useful for raw materials anyway.
