Here is a little trick... if you are not able to download or the speed is really slow, you can change your download region under settings.

For example, I am on the East Coast, US...and it was not moving at all at 2:30pm EST. I switch my server to West Coast (kids still at school), and I got 3 MB / sec.

It is the luck of the draw, picking the right servers and zones, but it usually works.

I have activated Steam Cloud feature ... it seems to be doing something now. I can't say more.

You can play in offline mode until the servers are less bussy.
