Non-combat obstacles

Fighting is getting boring for me. There is only so many times you can kill a bandit, troll, ect before one battle just seems like the next. No real interst in doing it again. I wish there were more non-combat obstacles. Physical obstacles like ravines to cross where you needed some imaginative manipulation of the physical world to get across. NPC influence obstacles other than killing or pickpocketing them. Someone is guarding a door? Can you get them druck and asleep by leaving bottles of mead nearby? If you drop a series of gems will they follow the trail and leave the door unguarded? Just something more than endless pointless fighting. I'm nostalgic for the imagination of the old Zork games. Burn a box with an underwire bra in it to get a wire to pick a lock to open a room with rats that you could catch to put in a cage with a wheel that it would turn to power a boat to ...

I love text adventures too, but Skyrim ain't one of 'em...
