What platform is best for me?

If I have chosen the wrong forum I am very sorry, but I was not sure weather this would fall under xbox or pc

Hello, I was wondering if I could call upon your collective knowledge, I have decided to join the Skyrim kult but I am not sure what platform would suit me best.
I used to play Morrowind on my PC and put many hours into it when Oblivion was released the pc I owned at the time would not run it so I bought it on 360 and it never really captured me like Morrowind had. I play the fallout series on Xbox religiously buying the DLC’s on release date arranging work to fit my gaming needs but I have pretty much got all I am going to from New Vegas, so it’s time to move on.

Why I am writing is I have put together a cheap (under £400) Workstation from Ebay parts to run video editing software as my laptop crashed 10-15 time while I was trying to make a low res 10 min video.

What I want is a an experience like I had with the xbox on fallout turn it on it works(most of the time) no jittering or falling over. I know my new PC will play it but I am unsure of how well it will cope. So what I want to know with the below spec which would be the richer, immersive gaming experience PC or Xbox?

Specification: it has two Quad core 2 GHz E5335 CPUs, 4 GB DDR2 Memory will be upgraded to 8gb when budget allows, server ram is not cheap. Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bit, high speed SAS controller Two Seagate Cheetah 15K.5 SAS 3Gb/s Hard Drives in a striped array and A NVidia GTX470.

A lot of the people here are going to push you towards the PC, but it's really all about preference. I enjoy playing Skyrim on my console more than I would on the PC, but of course everyone has different opinions.

Just go with what you feel would be more fun. For a more immersive experience though, I would probably say PC because of the mods..

Anyone who can put together his own PC out of parts is going to be unhappy with the console versions of the game once decent mods come out for the PC. If you have "Build it yourself" in your genes, you've got to get the PC version.

On the PC you can get mods and cool stuff and enhancements and the command console, things that you'll never have on console.
I play on the 360 and I'm fine with it tho, I'm still playing the release 1.1 version and ain't got any major issue yet.
I guess the only version you need to stay away from is the PS3 because of the known lag issues, at least until they are fixed.

Ok, I'm a 360 player BUT from one of your comment's I'm gonna say that you'd probably be happier playing on the pc.

I guess it's up to a pc player to tell you weather or not if what you have set up, is enough to play the game with mods, and still get a good experience.

Your specs meet the system requirements, therefore i say buy on PC of course.

Even if you don't use mods i would still go for the PC version.

I got the Platinum trophy on PS3 and then started on PC. This game is made for mods and the xbox/ps3 are simply shell versions of the game. It is all about preference, but if you play it and love it on xbox/ps3, you're probably going to switch to PC anyways.

I'd go with the PC. Several reasons.

Biggest one, obviously, is that you'll be able to use mods (and the mod engine was just released yesterday.)
And, two, the console (no, not the box-type consoles). You can access the command console. There are still problems with the game like quests not ending properly or not advancing, etc. On the PC, you can use the console to reset quests, end them, advance them, etc. You can also invoke god mode if that's something you like to do - no worry about die-ing, plus unlimited health/mana. You can bring followers and NPCs back to life if they die for some reason. And many other things.

UESPWiki is the best website to learn about all the commands. Go there and look on the first page, lot's of info there. About halfway down you'll find info for PC/Console commands.

Good luck.

Oh, and using a PC - you can use it for other things. I prefer to do many things on the PC, on- and off-line, boxes kind of limit you.

PC if you know how to hook up a controller to it, and you have a good PC for the game plus some mods to actually make it better than a console.

If not, then 360

Well you often own both a console and a pc :)

My recommendation is always: If your PC can run it, get it for PC.

Your PC can run it. Your PC specs are better than your XBOX's specs. Almost any PC that can run Skyrim is.

One thing I would recommend though: upgrade to Windows 7.

It has been many years since I have modded any sort of game, and back when I did all that mods seem to do was make a good game crash and blue screen, I take it mods have come on since then?
