Not all dragons give up souls. In particular a dragon that re-spawns at a specific location, will not have a soul.

It's strange because i find this dragon in a place where i've just learned a shout from a wall...
i learn the shout on the wall--> i killed the dragon --> nothing happened... it's strange!
Is that a bug?

Perhaps those particular dragons are rangas, and therefore have no soul to begin with? :P

from my experience it happens when you kill a scripted dragon more then once...dragons at word walls are the only one's that i've noticed this with, random wild dragons always give up a soul

It is entirely possible that you killed that dragon before. They do fly away from their perches and come out to play. I had two of these where I knew there should be a dragon, but it was not there at the time. I will say that right after the patch during beta, the dragon attack frequency dropped to nil. Which I rather enjoyed as I have enough dragon souls for all the shouts that I will unlock. However, since last Friday, I have been tripping over these things again every time I turn around.

Perhaps, once 30 game days goes by, all the weirdness gets sorted out. It does take 73 game hours after a patch for all the scripting changes to settle down.

I don't know why people assume that the dragons at the Word Walls can't be farmed for souls. I fast traveled to all the Dragon Lair locations, rested ~10 days, rinse and repeat until I had all the dragon souls I needed. If a dragon isn't giving you his soul it is most likely a glitch or bug occurring rather than a design decision.

Are you running a mod to cause lairs to respawn? I cleared Bonestrewn Crest (and all the others, but that was the first) as one of my first actions after meeting the Greybeards, and it hasn't respawned in many in-game hours.

No mods. Although I have stayed playing v1.1 because quite simply, it's the most stable Elder Scrolls I have ever played, and I didn't want to ruin that. Especially not after the disaster that was patch 1.2. In any case, I'll probably update when the Creation Kit is released.

The respawn rate for dragon lairs is approximately 10 days (~240 hours). Is the corpse of the dead dragon still around?

The corpses always disappear relatively quickly.. within a day. It's probably been about 90-100 in game days. Never had a lair respawn.

Don't know what to tell you. If the corpse has disappeared (It's possible that it could have just been placed elsewhere), then the dragon should respawn. Short of you visiting the cell before it respawns (Therefore resetting the respawn timer), I'm not sure what to tell you.

Interesting though. I didn't realize they were supposed to respawn at all. I wonder if using fast travel would fix it.

In my experiences, I've found that if you leave a corpse "empty" they do not respawn. Why? No idea. I first noticed this when I came across a lone bandit in Bleak Falls Barrow and saw two other bandits dead, stripped naked, that I had killed when I first started playing the game (The one that respawned was one that I hadn't stripped naked because he was carrying lots of heavy items). This also happened to me with mudcrabs where only one respawned, the one that I hadn't left empty. Ever since then I always leave a complimentary arrow on every corpse I kill.

Since you are playing a version where the Dragon Corpses to not get cleaned up, what you are saying does not apply to the rest of us who are running the patched game.

I wasn't talking about Dragons, but okay. O.o ... From what I hear, I'm better off in any case.

PS.
All my dragon corpses get cleaned up just fine.

I think it's a bug....I have killed 119 dragons, and only one failed to give up a soul. The failure occurred at the tower, just west of Whiterun.
In my experience, the word wall/lairs will respawn dragons until you reach a certain point in the main quest. I'm not sure what that point is but I left the main quest at Diplomatic Immunity, and went adventuring, returning to the lairs every few game days to slay more dragons, and collect more souls. Once that point is reached in the main Quest, the dragons will stop spawning at the lairs, and will start attacking you in the cities, while leaving dungeons, and fast traveling anywhere. This seems to happen (for me) about every three game days.

There is a point in the main quest when dragons just stop spawning indefinitely, but I'm not sure if that is what he was describing. In any case, place specific dragons have respawned for me during the main quest and post main quest. I obtained ~30+ dragon souls post main quest by just dragon hunting in dragon lairs.

How can u just leave me standing?
Alone in a world that's so cold? (So cold)
Maybe I'm just too demanding
Maybe I'm just like my father too bold
Maybe you're just like my mother
She's never satisfied (She's never satisfied)
Why do we scream at each other
This is what it sounds like
When dragons die

The same exact dragon respawns and therefore you can not take its soul because you already did the first time. This happens to me all the time its no big deal you just needed to wait longer before re-traveling to that area.
