I fell into the trap

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 7:16 am

I done the whole Smithing, Enchanting and Alchemy loop. At first it seemed like a good idea, who doesn't want to be all powerful, but now I've got my super powerful bow, daggers and swords, well... I regret it. And I'm not going to purposefully nerf myself, it wouldn't feel right. When people tell you the game isn't fun when it's easy, I never really believed it, but it really does get boring when you one shot everything and you can literally crouch in front of everything and it doesn't see you.

I've kind of decided to start a new account anyway, but this will be my... maybe 6th re-start now. My main worry is the fact I'll go into a dungeon and nothing will be new, and that it'll be even more boring than being 'overpowered'.

Does anyone have any tips to keep this interesting, APART from 'give the game a break!!!!!'... I

Start a new character and roleplay. Set limits and restrictions for your character from the get-go.

Go straight to a new town and do quests there. Works for me.

Eh? How about throwing away the super enchanted gear, and create some sane enchants instead. Enchant etc by itself does not break the game, its what you do with it. Set a sanity level, if set adequately low, then youll even find better gear in dungeons too.

I have a question about enchanting. I have a Nord Warrior who has a Smithing skill of 100 and an Enchanting of 42. By the time enchanting becomes 100 will that make my Nord OP?

I don't think so. Its only if you use Alchemy in combination with Enchanting - which lets you "spiral" up your skills to ridiculous levels - that it becomes OP.

Great idea. I support this.

You say that nerfing doesn't feel right, yet purposely combining skills to become demigod does?

People are doing this every day and then wondering how to fix it. They want another difficulty setting. All that does is nerf your char and buff the enemy. You can do the same by going with a less powerful weapon and armor. Better yet, don't make the "oh hell" gear to start with. Just taking a weapon to Legendary is well within the games fair mechanics. Raising it to insane numbers past that point is the problem.

EDIT : You fell in the trap. But you knew it was there...you dug the hole.

All the gear I wear I get from quests and/or dungeons. It keeps dungeons and quests interesting (what will you gain?!) and it doesn't make you ridiculously overpowered. I use specific items in specific situation, i.e. Dragonsbane specifically for dragons, unenchanted Ebony Sword (Superior) normally. I simply haven't found better items yet, and my Smithing is only at around 40, so I can't upgrade weapons further than Superior, and cannot upgrade magical gear at all. This way it doesn't get easy, doesn't get boring, makes quests and dungeons worthwile and involves some strategy. I am not bored yet and I'm still on my very first savegame I started off with.

Like I said, the idea of being really powerful really appealed to me, and once you've got really powerful equipment, to me, it doesn't feel right to switch it out. I'll happily make a new account and kind of learn not to do this, because there's nothing less satisfying than killing everything instantly, and then opening a chest KNOWING what's in there you won't make use of.

Before you delete the old character, try jacking the difficulty up to Master and see if that has any challenge. If it doesn't then they need to rebalance the difficulty of Master.

I did posted an alternative playstyle where you stay as a level 1 and perkless. I play that on Master but any difficulty is OK. It is definitely possible because I have completed a good number of the quests, including the Gauldar Amulet and Asura's Star, both normally already difficult fights.

It makes the loot very much stronger than what you can craft and even the lackluster Gauldar Amulet is now really an artifact of legend. Also, being a werewolf much more fun now.

Heres the thread. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1343124-idea-new-playstyle
Unfortunately no one seems to be interested tho. Not even those who decided to "play as a NPC".

Hey, maybe the game just doesn't stand up to repeated replays, huh?

Mods!

If you're on console, then I only have 2 suggestions:

1. Get the PC version and install mods
2. Role play another toon

So far, I resisted the temptation to choose the 2-3 last perks on the sneak skill tree. I'm also afraid I will be too overpowered then it will get boring.

Play an orc, and stay out of the towns as much as possible. Make the orc outposts your homebase.

Pretty disappointing you can't even join the orc faction as an orc and they keep referring to you as an outsider.
