Why is the Oblivion Soundtrack more memorable to me then Sky

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 8:18 am

So,after playing Skyrim for almost 400hours,it hit me,a nostalgic feeling for Oblivions music. Why is the soundtrack from Oblivion so much more memorable then Skyrim? Dont get me wrong,I LOVE both games, and Skyrim has an amazing main theme, better then Oblivion, and some epic and beautiful songs, but in Skyrim, the music doesn't really "stick" to me as much as Oblivion, especially all the piano pieces in Oblivions soundtrack that were really beautiful,I remember times I'd just leave the game running while I read a book in real life. I just dont get the same feeling with Skyrims music, and it makes me sad.

Maybe its cause Oblivion was the first Elder Scrolls game I ever played, and that made the experience so much more unique for my first time, not sure. I enjoyed Skyrims music, and I love ALOT of the songs, but after having heard every track, they just...I dunno,I dont know how to explain it,and I cant be the only one that feels like this...Maybe its part of growing up and getting older,I just wish I had an answer as to why I feel this way.

Also, just one thing I'd like to say I prefer in Skyrim, are the battle soundtracks,I can gladly say they are MUCH better then Oblivions.

Edit: This makes me wish I had a PC version of Skyrim so I could dump the entire soundtrack from Oblivion into Skyrim :[

I love all TES soundtracks. I uploaded them to my hard drive and can listen to them all while I play. That's how I roll.

Probably the same reason why the Morrowind soundtrack makes me nostalgia hard. ^_^ I too enjoy the music in Skyrim, but to me, Morrowind's music is better, probably because it was the first TES i played. ^_^

Although, i DO miss the inn music in Daggerfall. :)

Just personal preference. I like all ES songs I have heard since Morrowind.

I never found any of the series' music all that amazing. They are atmospheric sure, but there is always a lack of truly moment/scene defining music.

Was going to ask how you converted MIDI files into MP3s... :P

In any case, my favorite pre-Morrowind tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZ97I2p4_YY

To the OP, I actually really like Skyrim's soundtrack. It's probably one of my favorite things about the game and I just kind of place Morrowind's and Oblivion's in the same vein. They're all composed by Jeremy Soule and all remind me of each other in ways.

Wow I really liked that song. And yeah, its probably because of nostalgia,I always have alot of nostalgic moments for some reason, and it makes me miss alot of things from the past.

ALSO, I just had an epiphany! Since I have the Xbox 360 version of Skyrim, all I have to do is transfer the songs to the hard drive and hit the guide button and play them while playing Skyrim! Im so dumb haha,I should of thought of this sooner! Now I can enjoy the best of both worlds!

You've answered your own question.

Nostalgia. It's been around for like 6 years.

Skyrim has been around for a couple of months. Even if you have played it a heap, it still is only new.

My first TES was morrowind. I prefer Skyrims sountrack overall, especialy because they've finaly got situational music other than explore and combat. I also love that the theme takes elements of the Oblivion and Morrowind theme songs.

In my opinion...

Morrowind has the best main theme
Oblivion has the best exploration / town music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGXRWgcrRsI isn't far behind)
Skyrim has the best battle music

Skyrim's exploration music isn't bad... but you're right - it's just not as memorable as Oblivion's. In fact, the only track that really stood out for me was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCjDlojUMKo - which is essentially a remix of a track from Oblivion anyway.

The main music which is played at the game menu is amazing. I am composing music for over 11 years and I haven't enjoyed any game music this far (+ Medal of honor; Allied assault).
