The NPCs in Skyrim look a lot more rough and hardy - and I think this suits the game. It's just the way character gen is. There aren't really any tricks you can use to change it, short of mods.

I see this topic come up alot over the years, what's the big deal with this? why do people want to play a young looking avatar? i mean i prefer my males and females to be slightly older looking maybe around 25-35-sometimes slightly older, and just so you know, i myself am 22 years old..if that matters.

For some reason i picture those anime themed mods out there that makes the characters look like plastic and all fake, but that's just me lol.
Also think of it this way, would you want a young 'warrior' type who is barely a man or even just a teenage to take on the responsibility of saving the world from dragons and interacting with kings/yarls and being in a war around politics?
same goes for a would be thief, growing up on the streets of riften and being immature not knowing how to escape the guards for stealing some old ladies sweet roll?

Or a young apprentice mage that doesn't know how to fully control his power? that could turn out badly.

Guess the point i'm making is, younger looking doesn't really fit well to me, because as you age you become wiser and smarter, i know i have personally.
Seeing as how these games play out it just doesn't fit to be a younger person. nobody would take you seriously.
But obviously this is a video game and nothing like that matters..it's the thought that counts, and the amount of role-play.

I just dont like how the woman can get smooth clear skin, yet the men cant. We have to be wrinkly, dirty, and hairy. svcks. Wish we could shave and take showers or something >_>

This is what ultimatly made me decide in making my character a Khajit, its normal to be a hairy khajit.

Oh and one other thing I dont like is how Female Argonians can get red eyes, yet Males cant. I wanted to make an evil argonian that worships Alduin and has black scales with red eyes, but I cant do it.

Go into the editor and change it, very simple to allow that for males.
If you're on consoles then you're out of luck :/

My first character I intended to make a rough tough fugly type...but he turned out pretty fine looking with a bear scratch across his face and a corresponding broken nose...looked really good.

My second character ended up looking like a boozy, beer gutted neanderthal...and his scars morphed into pock marks and zits somewhere in the process. He is truly fugly.

lol.. I've decided to restart a fem character I had. Not only is she manly, she's going to be the first female Greybeard.

I guess I'll get over her being female, but somehow a female Nord dovahkiin is a helluva lot cooler to me now.

Just use brighter face colors and less dirt, add some dark hair and don't use beards, as it makes you look older.
