2 notes on the civil war

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:41 pm

1. why did they put in so many misc quests that made the story line for the civil war short. it was very short done in 8 minutes.

2 beth should have a poll to see what faction people play most and use that as the Overall winner to the war to refrence in next game or addon because not refrencing it would be stupid.

Seems pretty ridiculous to me too. Even if youskip every single bit of dialogue as fast as possible, which would still add up to a few minutes, and had already been to every location required for the quest so you could do them right away, and didn't count loading screens, there's still a lot of moving about and a dungeon dive and at least 8 battles, most of which couldn't be completed in 1 minute.

What does he mean by should have but a poll in to reference for the next game. Bethesda hasn't made a new game yet.

You really like starting these nonsense posts... don't you? Doing any questline quickly and then complaining about how short they are is only making you look stupid.

He's saying they should take a poll on the forums of which side was played more often in the civil war, and use that to decide who will officially win the war in lore which will be mentioned in the next game. I think it's pretty obvious, though, that the explanation that works for both sides, is that after the war ended (no winner described in lore), the Thalmor struck hard and fast and the Nords became part of the dominion.

I have to agree with OP to an extent here.

While it may not have been the over-exaggerated "8 minutes" he describes, I do have to say that the Civil War Quest felt criminally short in. From the point of beginning a new game, it throws the civil war quest directly into your face, making you think that this is going to be an extremely important quest that may be considered "Main Quest 2". Unfortunately, at the end of the day when I stood beside Ulfric in Solitude in victory, I couldn't help but feel like the quest line was a last minute rush job.

"Go here, capture this. Then there, you know what to do."

It just seems to me to lack any substance or flavor compared to the other quest lines. Although you could defend it by pulling the "its a war" card, and I can understand that to an extent, but I cant shake the lackluster feeling I get towards it still.

The civil war quest wasn't too short. For me it was actually too long since it was so criminally, insanely stupid and boring. Everyone must have been totally stoned when they thought of it because it's so repetitive, that after the first few quests, I could have made the rest myself, there were only 3 quests which could be considered remotely unique. I think it's by far and large the weakest aspect of Skyrim.

it was a last minute rush job AFAIK, bethesda attempted to have radient story do every single quest line int eh game but that failed mesirably so they had to remake everything from scratch (okay, the word going around on the forums is it was jsut for the guilds but i think it must apply to this too, since it is so short and more-or-less badly done)
