Random city attacks...

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 4:11 pm

don't you just feel bad for the guards? they don't get any action other then drunken brawls and petty thievery... don't you think it would be cool if you were in whiterun just going to go sell your newest loot to the general store when all of a sudden 20 bandits enter the city and just start killing and attacking every one? maybe not killing... but attacking. that would be pretty cool to just have random attacks on towns and what not. It would add some nice randomness to this great game.

what do ya think? maybe some big brawls in the taverns, i've never seen one, but apparently every night in the whiterun tavern there is a brawl...

Would be good. We have dragon attacks, so why no bandits?

All of Skyrim is in civil war, and it feels just that CIVIL. Where is the conflict? Where are the sieges and roaming parties and scouting parties fighting? Monsters don't roam or attack. It would be fantastic to have more random encounters, particularly sieges of cities.

I don't think the bandits would be stupid enough to attack a large city full of guards, like Whiterun, but smaller towns maybe.

Get the WiS & Civil Unrest mods, then chuck on the Open Cities mod.

Bobs your uncle!

I don't think bandits would attack a major city like Whiterun, even if they had large numbers. A city like Dawnstar, I could see.

I've seen bandits, or their remnants, attack smaller settlements like Riverwood, but it'd be pretty foolish to even try attacking a walled city without large siege weapons. Bandits are pretty much like any predator: seek the most gain from the least risk. The more guards, the more risk. And even if they succeded in attacking, say, Riverwood, any survivors mean the Jarl is likely to put one heck of a bounty on their heads -- one sizable enough that even the dragonborn might be interested. ;)

Maybe for a mission but I would dislike groups of the citizenry being slaughtered especially in a game I will invest a lot of hours into.

but you talk to any of the guards in any city and they always say "we have not had a good bandit raid in a while" like it's happened. it would be cool i guess for un walled cites like dawnstar to be attacked.

You mean like in Red Dead Redemption where bandits randomly come in and start shooting people? Yeah I'd like that, except it would have to be in unwalled holds. Or, if the bandits were smart enough, they could disguise themselves as farmers and walk right into the hold.

I think the guards mean that they haven't raided any bandit camps themselves in a while.
