Recording game footage.

Does anyone know of a good footage recorder and video editor? They need to be free as it's not important enough to be spending money on. I've been trying to get hard kills recently and want to record them all, even if I don't end up uploading them anywhere, it would be nice to make a little archive. Like today I got a level 7 vokun kill without using the HUD, a companion, heals, or perks on master, recorded it all and the file was corrupt, I was so bummed out as i spent hours trying to take him down :/ so I need some kit that won't screw up basically.

Thanks for any help.

For the PC:

Consoles, there are a few ways, but those folks will have to answer to that.

Isn't included in Windows 7, there are some versions of it for 7 however. Those being Windows Live Movie Maker, and Windows Movie Makers HD (I believe).

Ha! I play on console, but when I wanted a picture of my character for my avatar I had to resort to taking a picture of my TV screen. Have no idea how to do video footage other than pointing a video camera at the TV screen. Hopefully I will learn from this thread.
