i think its more of the idea that Skyrim was even more advertised and meant for a more general audiance then previous TES which were more focused on catering to being a game for solely true Rpg pplayers.

Yeah pretty much. Guilds are terrible, NPCs are uninteresting and quests are boring.

Skyrim is more reconized because there arent really any other RPGs that are that good out right now (imo anyway) plus the advertising.....and dragons.

If Skyrim gets more people into RPGs and away from the repetitive monster called COD, then that's a good thing

So, it's just same ol' same ol'. And you're only cool if you've played since the beginning of the series? Anyone who came to love TES because of Skyrim is a chump?

in my experience i find that to not be true, every one i knew (excluding one who diliberatly shunned morrowind based off of face value) constantly talked about the stuff we did in morrowind, and i was the first of my friends to get oblivion so they would come over to my house a lot.

Because Skyrim isn't repetitive?

It's not the exact same game released every year with slightly better-looking dirt

Gee I feel so inferior to all you "true" RPG players. Not! Lol, you guys are worse than black metal fans. I won't lie, Skyrim was my first TES but I liked it so much I decided to try Oblivion (and even a bit of Morrowind) and it was so bad I gave up on the rest of the series. Eagerly awaiting the next one though. Oh and...CoD FTW!

They did better marketing and they have dragons those two things alone would sell this game. Then there was the success of Oblivion. Those are the three main things that sold Skyrim well, what they did not tell us is this game is a mile wide and an inch deep and is plagued with bugs, hopefully they are fixed.

Yeah and you get bonus points if you hate Skyrim because it simplified the character creation and class building.

TES I-III were very niche. Oblivion was beginning to be a more open, accessible RPG. Skyrim actually is accessible to the average gamer, which I consider to be a good thing.

Also, +1 for the above post.

If we are attacking the amount of games a developer makes then I encourage you to go and look at the number of titles Bethesda has worked on since Oblivion, and the number of titles Treyarch/Infinity Ward have worked on since CoD4.

If it is the gameplay we are attacking then I encourage you to go play CoD4 then MW2

If it's the graphics we are attacking then you should understand the huge difference 60fps makes to a shooter versus 30 fps because CoD runs at a consist 60 fps on consoles which BF doesn't.

I could go on but honestly there isn't a huge difference between Oblivion vs Skyrim, nor is there a huge difference between CoD4 and MW3.

Have you not played The Witcher 2? Deus Ex:HR?
But yea, the advertising and extreme hype really got it out to the average gamer.
