RP Mode?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:24 pm

I know it sounds stupid but what if they had a mode where at the start of a new game you get the choice to choose between normal game or RP mode? i.e Pick a nord -> Warrior or spellsword or magician ->a certain amount of preset perk trees are available everything else grayed out, even during the game,if a magician adds a common weapon to their inventory they are penalised by losing a perk and 25% of all three stats are deducted until you drop the weapon.

Basically what oblivion had with character sets.

I know alot RP out there but the game has a zero to nil penalty system.

I hope no ones thought of this before and started a thread elsewhere.

So like how mass effect 3 has it?

Like story mode
Roleplay mode
Or action mode?

You don't need an entire mode for this. You should have to balance your character however. There needs to be advantages and disadvantages instead of just advantages. Generally, in RPGs "Humans" do not excel in anything or have really any special traits, but they also have no weaknesses. You would take say an "Orc" and they would have massive benefits to Strength and can Frenzy, but are penalized when it comes to Magicka. It goes much deeper than just Race selection. People feel these are restrictions, but they aren't. They are parameters. You can still build anything, but you have to be strategic in how you do so. The problem in Skyrim is that you are just given godliness. You do not have to "exploit" the system like posters claim. When you can have the best of both worlds or have it all and sacrifice nothing, that takes the fun out of it.

Yes please. That way the casuals get what they want without effecting the vets.

I have'nt played any of the mass effect games.I think the devs could of put it in considering the devs would have been d&d players themselves when they cooked up arena back in the day, have they traded off for the market profit? Trying to entice a very young set of players for the next installment. The idea came about when i was choosing a character for my next game thru.I thought what if i could'nt have certain perks and a reduced set of stats or a beefed up set of stats.

I'd be happy if it went back to Oblivion style. Make a custom class, choose your 7 Major Skills. Nice and easy.

Me too but it's a new system,it just feels superficial?not properly fleshed out.
