AM I the only person who knows that the war is over?!?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 12:15 am

So I helped the Imperials defeat the Thalmor puppet Ulfric - stood alongside General Tullius as he made his victory speech - have walked past all of the ruin of war in Whiterun; yet all of the NPCs keep talking as if the war is still on!!

Have I missed doing something, or is this just "something waiting to be fixed in a later update"?!?

Apparently, this along with no one realising your actual ranks in guilds really get to me.

Yeah. It's annoying. Apparently it's a lot of effort to record a few more lines of speech that acknowledge anything you complete in the game.

This... I REALLY hope that a future DLC will expand on this and change it, it's the biggest problem i have with Skyrim so far...

So your that new member of the Companions? So you, what, fetch the Mead?

I doubt they would do that as a DLC, and if that was the only feature of DLC I wouldn't buy it. But they have said things along the lines of minor content patches and that would be a good thing to put in them.

I do get NPC’s saying things like “You are the one that gave the Thalmor a black eye (or something like that)”. “You are the one that killed those witches”. Which is cool as there is some recognition for minor quests. Odd that the major things, like ending the war, never gets out and the camps are still around with essential lieutenants in each one.

This is what surprises me too. I can meet enemies and NPC's that relate to some minor side quest where I killed some unknown necromancer or stole a pair of boots from somebody's house...but not any events or reactions to the fact that I just completed a major questline.

It does take away inducement to keep playing. This game is so great but there is that 10% that never got done, that 10% extra effort that would have made this a classic for the ages.

FO3 begs to differ ;P

With the way the main quest ends, as well as the civil war quests, and the lack of NPCS talking about either, i beg to differ... If i am wrong however, then that isnt a good thing... Eitherway i hope they look into it...

Well I mean that shouldn't be the ONLY feature of the DLC. I don't want it to be the Horse Armor of Skyrim. Reactions to things like this should have been in in the beginning.

Course my favorite line is when my giant orc warrior decked out in full dragon bone walks into Whiterun and some kid says "you don't looks so tough."

That's when you decapitate his parent in front of him. Except you can't because he's essential. Then you look like a fool, unable to kill a normal citizen and the kid taunts you endlessly. You leave Whiterun in the middle of the night to hide your shame.

"No more fetching mead for you, eh?" That's all it takes, a few lines like that here and there. No recognition of the war, the main quests, the College or Companions, yet every guard knows you have Azura's Star.

Especially with things like the Dark Brotherhood. Every guard for some reason knows you are in the DB, which is like the ONE thing they shouldn't know, unless you get caught doing their work.

I agree with what all of you are saying but there are a few NPCs that will react to the war ending. I took Whiterun for the Stormcloaks and a few of them had comments about it when you talked to them: Arcadia, Belethor, maybe Adriana too, etc.

I found it strange that it was such a big feature in Fallout 3 - having updates on your progress, so to speak, on the radio and then in Skyrim absolutely nothing. It got good reviews from players and reviewers too. Some sort of town cryer would have been nice, maybe even Bards in the taverns giving "news" updates about the war or the dragons or just telling gossip and roumors.

Also, a good many NPCs in Windhelm have something new to say after you take it for the Empire. (I haven't done the Stormcloak side yet, but I would hope there are similar comments in Solitude after it's taken.) It just doesn't go beyond that. I can still ask Balgruuf what it would take to end the war, and a lot of NPCs that should certainly care that the war is over, like Elisif, have absolutely nothing new to say. It's downright surreal.
