Can't explore in Skyrim it will break quests

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 6:18 pm

No because after youve received the quest, the briarheart will be unable to be removed.
Your only option in this case is to reload a previous save and make sure you dont have a briarheart on you when the courier delivers his note.

Or advance the quest stage by using the console commands. Granted, not helpful for 360 / PS3 players.

I explored tons of places on my mage who ended up with nearly 300 hours. I don't recall breaking anything but then I wouldn't have really cared as I plan to play multiple characters anyway. Why are some of you so obsessed with clearing every single thing off the quest list? I always end up with stuff left on my list. Things I don't care to do or that don't fit my character. To me it's like a conversation you overhear somewhere. It's always in your head but that doesn't mean you have to act on it. The quest log is no different. Just because I overhear a guard telling me about some bandits in a cave and it puts that in my log doesn't mean I am forced to go do that quest.

The quest requires you to collect a briarheart. It will point you to a specific one, thats inside a Briarheart boss.
If you already have one this messes things up. The objective will be completed, but you will not be able to turn it in.
Nor remove it from your inventory. Nor any other briarheart from then on.
Thinking about it, it is possible this is fixed in a recent patch, but Im not 100% on that

They did fix this in a recent patch, along with most of the other quest item early issues.

Most of the issues caused by finding quest items early have been patched out of the game. This is not to say that someone who found them pre-patch are guaranteed success, most after patching the game can go forward.

Of the 26 quest related dungeons, there maybe 5 that you don't want to go in early. The rest of the quest dungeons, the quest starts when you show up. The balance of the 150 or so other ones are safe, game wise, to explore at any time.

Warning, spoilers in the link:

Thank you for that link, will memorise those dungeons and avoid them if not on the related quest.

I printed the list off and made a mark by the dungeons to not go into early. Again, there are only a few that you want to stay out of. The rest of them on the list, the quest starts when you get there. You can tell because there will be a friendly NPC or two that talk to you either before you go in, or in the first room in the place.

I've never broken a quest once. And I explore a lot.

Neither have I. I even found a Briarheart early before that issue was patched out. That quest worked just fine for me.

It seems like people are really streching to find problems with Skyrim if this is what they're complaining about. you can explore 95%+ of the game and not break anything and even then what you can break isn't all that signifigant with the exception the the riften skooma dealer quest line and maybe 1 or 2 other things but the way these people talk you'd think exploring every other dungeon will seriously break your game. Most of the problems talk about in this thread can be fixed by using the console if you play on the PC if you play on a Console not sure what to tell you.

Always happens. they post like they want help but tell them something they don`t want to hear and they shout back in your face. they just want instant mob agreement.

I have never had this problem some seem to have and my game continues running merrily. So maybe I missed a quest, or maybe I didn`t. My game did not stop, it did not break. Point is, there`s plenty more and for all we know any `cancelled` quest could be reset after the 10 or 30 day period.

It is a problem on PC as well, I play on PC and have run into this several times now. Yes, I can look up the console commands to cancel the quest when it breaks like this, to get it out of my quest log, and I've done that. And... yes... Beth could *fix* this so that it doesn't happen anymore, in a patch. Proper quest flagging/resolution when you talk to NPC's, isn't rocket science-

Talk to NPC... NPC gives you quest... NPC sees you've already completed or activated the quest completion criteria... NPC gives you credit for completing quest and rewards you... quest clears from your log. Viola! Not so hard, now is it? If they can't easily fix those kind of botchups when they happen, they need remedial QA training. It may not be the biggest issue in the game that needs fixing, but it definitely should get fixed, as the largest segment of Skyrim players have no remedy when it happens.

My prior character I played as an explorer (Post 1.4 patch) and I missed up the following quests by clearing dungeons early:

The Affairs of Hagravens
Flight or Fight
Supply and Demand

That really isn’t a lot compared to what is out there. The worse being Supply and Demand obviously as it prevents you from buying the Riften house. PC users can work around it, console users are basically screwed.

My current character I just don’t clear a place out unless I’m sent there. Still have plenty to do so it’s not a real problem.

I bought the Riften House and never did Supply and Demand. In fact, I am trying to get that quest to trigger. Maybe it does not because I already have the house. So, it may just be an alternative path to getting the house.

It's OK really, as that quest is more for a Thief than my Paladin I am playing right now.
