what are your saving habits?

Always play dead is dead, so only when I leave. Less annoying that way.

I tend to fight saving. I always try to avoid it as much as possible so...

I have auto save off except for sleeping, all the rest is manual.

No quick saving either, not just because I see it as a bit of a cheat (imho), but also it can cause problems. First one is if you quick save in the middle of the action that can cause all kinds of bugginess and it`s very easy to accidentally quick save where you really didn`t want to and then you can ruin your game if you have no recent backups. manual save tends to make you think a moment longer whther it`s a good time to save or not and there`s less of a chance you`ll do it a crucially buggy point.

I tend to manually save before entering any main place like dungeons or cities and sometimes after long walks like 10-15 minutes, but not usually anywhere else.

I quicksave a lot, but save only before quitting the game, and then I copy the save and move it to my own save folder (not the original one liked to the game). I keep all my characters in there, so I swap the saves around when I want to play character X. Also, I'm paranoid about saves being corrupted by mods, so I keep some old ones around just in case.

If I am walking the wilds I will save often. If I know I am going and out of doors a lot, I let the autosave do its work instead.

I usually quick save every few minutes. I do a hard save every 10-15 minutes, only overwriting the saves about 5 times in a row before I delete it and make a new one. I usually only keep 10 or so saves in my actual saves folder.

I save every damn chance I get. I've got a level 45 character with some 2500 saves to his name.

And how do you people know how many hours you've put into the game?

Each saved game lets you know how many hours you've played that character.
Check it out next time you load a Saved Game.

Oh...and I use only auto saves.

My saving habits are dictated by platform, PS3, so:-

Prime save points at major quest branch points.
Save before getting a new quest active in case it bugs.
Save before quest reward in case it bugs.
Save at each session end at home of choice after inventory housekeeping.
When the 128 save slot limit is reached, go through, removing anything not needed / confirmed bugged, backup keepers to USB drive.

Rinse and repeat.

Oh yeah, no autosaves to avoid bugs.

I always save after a fight - don't want to do that again.

When walking through the wilderness, I rewrite previous saves until I get to where I'm going, leaving the original starting point alone.

My habbit is that I forget to save as offten as I should.I was playen the other night and was asked how long I've been playen my newest Char. so I went into the save screen(what I thought was the save screen) to save my game due to the nearly 6 hours of work I just did and to show my bro. how many hours I have clocked. I was so glad with the work I had put in, I had completed 5 TG side quests, completed 3 assassinations and had cleared 3-4 caves and around 5 forts and without watching what I was doing I selected the first file thinking I was saving my game and showing the hour count. I was soooooooo wwwrrroooonnnngggg!!!!!!!!!! I was in the load menu not the save menu, so when I selected that first file to save I actually had chosen to load my game from 6 hours prior. :wallbash: Thankfully though I had the same bad habbit from Oblivion and have gotten used to this occurrence and tend to go about my business and re-visit all locations that I did the first time as I travel the map.

Hence my signature below.

I play on ps3 (unfortunatly) so it takes about 20 seconds to save. I don't have the patience to save every 5 minutes or so because it is too much of a time waster, so I usually depend on auto saves, but I don't die much anyway.

I hit f5 about every 30 seconds :). In each room of a dungeon, around each bend when outside, after killing each cluster of enemies. I overwrite each real numbered save when i get back to town. Between that and autosave i have what i want.

I reduced my overclock so w/ Skyrim i no longer have glitches or corrupted saves

My saving habit is seemingly random and can range from saving every 5 minutes to not saving for hours. Why? I have no idea, but I generally feel like my saving isn't taking much from my game experience.

This, it's a pain to save on 360 and I forget so often, it's annoying as hell when I have to go back twenty minutes. Sometimes I sit there thinking hmm shall I save here but don't bother then walk round corner and get one shotted by something.

I have a robe wearing character on master with only a hundred health, I save obsessively with that file, if it's a tough fight I'll even save in the middle of the battle.

- I'm in the obsessive camp. I save once in each new area (can't trust the 'autosaves') and if I see a fight coming up - I save before it AND afterwards. I simply HATE having to replay a bunch of steps to get back to where I was.

It still might take me 1/2 dozen or more deaths to figure out how to get through some battles, I just don't want to replay the 1/2 dozen or more battles BEFORE it over and over again. If you like replaying a bunch of content then only rely on the autosaves or play in "dead is dead" mode.

While "dead is dead" offers an interesting angle to playing I'd rather not have to play in "totally paranoid as I can be" mode.

I use an autosave mod that saves every five minutes or so without my input. The game's autosaves were causing crashes for me and left to my own devices I forget so this way I don't have to think about saves. I do have to do some house cleaning every now and again to keep the large save files from piling up, though.

Yeah, I find it necessary to do house cleaning of my saves too.

I save right before entering a new area, since most of my game freezes occur when the area loads. When I'm done for the day, I'll go through my save list and delete ones I don't need.

I do a new, hard save every 5-10 mins usually. TES games have a history of buggy saved games when you copy over a previous one or quick save/load. Game crashes, power outages, kid emergencies...you never know when all your time might be lost suddenly.

Usually I play a character until I have 100-150 saves then delete all but the most current save. Then I back up that current save to another hard drive. I rotate playing through my 9 characters this way. :)

I don't have saving habits actually. From time to time, i say to myself "Oh, maybe you should make a save?" and I answer myself "You're right!" ;)
