Fighting as a warrior

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 7:40 pm

Hah.. yeah, it is cheap. I have tactics for certain types of encounters, but health potions are definitely necessary. I ended up training in alchemy too. It's still "realistic" for my warrior. A warrior who's a sort of survivalist/outdoorsman. Like a viking Bear Grylllz or something.

I try to rely on some shouts as well. Might as well. This game is supposed to be about dragonborn. It seems like some people don't even use shouts. I like them. Unrelenting Force is good crowd control. Elemental Fury is my "oh sh*t, I underestimated these guys!" shout.

And the "Marked for Death" shout will make you a force of annihilation. You'll just march relentlessly through foes with it at 3 full words.

;)

I feel the exact same about restoration, but i've got the shield perk that slows time, it allows me to dodge and i save so much more health now ... only "magic" i use its the Dragon shout Fire breath... i don't feel like thats a cheat as its my only purpose in the game... but i refuse to use all the other mage like spells.

Yep, I am pure warrior as well and don't use magic at all. I use a shield and single Skyforge sword with heavy plated armour. I generally stick to the Companions with upgraded equipment and use shield bashing.

Re-rolled my character last night and switched to light armor. I am trying to change the way I fight, and I must say backpedaling and dodging attacks while using mainly quick strikes with a sword make combat not only more fun, but a little easier. I am still getting using to it but it seems to work well, and it makes it much more interesting. No more just sitting there, block/swing, block/swing. Fights also take a little longer now.

For me two handed weapons got too powerful and boring. Blocking perks and single handed weapon perks are more interesting and combat is more interesting as well.

Yeah, especially blocking one. Two handed just gets too powerful and you can kill most enemies with one hit and just take the hit from them because the two handed weapons are slower. One handed and shield is a lot more interesting since a one handed attack usually doesn't(unless you get really weak enemies) kill with one hit and you can always block their first attacks with quicker weapons and arrows with blocking perk.

I never had that much trouble with archers as a 2handed heavy armorded kinda guy, I always run towards then doing the zigzag route and they often miss their arrows, and once you get the critical charge perk it only gets easier.

When going after archers, don't have the shield up if they're not shooting. When they do shoot, then put up the shield. That will help you close the distance easier, if you don't have the shield sprint perk, since you normally move faster while not blocking.

So I really got to put this new strategy to the test last night. I was level 4 and ran into 2 wandering bandit chiefs and 2 bandits (the one's that wander near Falkreath). Well after about a 10 minute fight I finally killed all of them. The first bandit I took out with a bow, one bandit I managed to leave behind, and had to isolate the two chiefs back running away so they wouldn't double team me. I still had to use some health potions, and I cheaply leveled up mid fight, but I am still learning.

The on chief had a greatsword which was really difficult to backpedal from. He was the toughest. Luckily a pack of wolves attacked and helped me a bit with him. The other chief just had a steel mace and she was much easier to dodge/shield bash and do a quick strike and get out of the way.

Was a lot of fun.
