You should be able to re-marry after your wife dies. I think you need to receive a Letter of Inheritance first though.

That is not the case according to the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Project's Wiki: http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Marriage#Notes

If your spouse dies, you will not be able to remarry.

I agree, but this probably isn't at the very top of their list right now.

I doubt it's even on their list to be honest. The marriage system was not very well though out at all andneeds alot more than simply being able to remarry to improve it

That's why you marry someone who can kick some ass vs. turn up dead from a skeever bite.

i.e. Aela, Jenassa, Mjoll

No doubt there is.

For me, if and when they make marriage have some actual impact on the game in some way, I'll continue to live the single life.

I look at it this way; I've been single for 49 levels now, I have no regrets. I can tell my follower to follow me, or go home without any guilt (-:
The honeymoon would be kool if there could be one. There isn't. So..I figure why would I want to mess with a good thing.

I think the reason Maramal gives his whole "life is short and hard" speech is some sort of defense for the fact that the marriage system is so simple.

The very statement makes the fact you can only marry once quite ridiculous frankly!
